Use this link: http://www.elisalotus.it/index2.htm
to hear a nice version of "Hallelujah" by the
Italian singer Elisa on her album "Lotus".
(She sings in English)
Thanks to Andrea for the info (and the CD)!

wainwrights

Post by Florence »

version is the one that i like the most. it actually took me awhile until i realised that it was cohen who has written it.
but it's one thing i don't understand and that is if wainwright write some on his own, cause when i look after cohens hallelujah lyrics it is not the same that wainwright sings?

i am singin' hallelujah in a play that i am in. wow i am nervous. cracking
wish me luck.
sang the same song for a year ago, but that was a long time, and i havent got that much time too practice the last weeks..jeeses. now i got to stop thinking about it

Tom Sakic wrote:But if I must choose one really - the honest cover would be Bob Dylan's live cover from Montreal 1988! And that says the-Dylan-heretic
I still prefer the version Dylan performed a few weeks later - 08/04/88 - in the Greek Theatre in Hollywood, which is my all-time favourite Hallelujah Cover (besides the one I gave last summer to a very small audience, of course...)

Try searching for a version by a guy called "Jack L" in Dublin. A brilliant cover. Probably my fav. Its probably on one of the MP3 file share sites.

Hello there :) this is my first post.

I think Jack L might be Jack Lukeman... available on Emule right now :) I'll listen to it and I'll let you know if it's worthwhile ;)

Hi Efreet ~

Welcome to the Forum :D ! I like your name [which reminds me, Epurcelly ~ yes, Venga Navidad would be a great name for you to have 8) !] Anyway, Efreet, that's a lovely way to enter here, offering to check something out 8) [and, of course, giving your definitive assessment  ].

Hi Efreet,
Welcome also,

You are absolutely correct, Mr Lukeman is the same Jack L.
Here is a feature from sorted mag for interest.

I would be interested in yours and others opinions on Jack's version of Halleuliah.

Later

Thanks everybody for the welcome! I just heard John Cale's cover and I must say that it's not bad at all... I'd rate it second, just after Jeff Buckley's (which is IMHO extremely good!) :)

@lyzzytish
Nice that you like my name, it means "devil" or "satan" in Arabian, or at least that's what some Arabian guy told me on IRC! I just took it from Baldur's Gate II and Magic The Gathering (and I've been using it for a few years!).

Oh, and I like your name, too: it sounds like lizzyfish which is quite strange and funny! ;)

Well, lizzyfish.....not entirely inappropriate, either, my being a Pisces  .

"Devil" or "Satan," eh? Did you just happen to like the sound of it, or the visuals [the way it looks on paper]? Or, are you drawn to it for deeper, more complex, reasons?

ANOTHER VERSION

Post by david birkett »

There's an album of rather operatically sung cabaret songs by Patricia O'Callaghan called Slow Fox. She does an amazing Hallelujah and very good Take this Waltz on it.

Patricia O' Callaghan's CD 'Real Emotional Girl' has 5 Cohen songs on it....
Take This Waltz, Hallelujah, A Singer Must Die, I'm Your Man and Joan of Arc. My favorites are Take This Waltz and A Singer Must Die but the others are excellent too.

I heard the Jeff Buckley version last week on the radio (whilst driving) - and yes, it blew me away. I had to stop the car - it was the most amazing version I've ever heard. Has he done any others?

kd's version

Post by Adrian »

http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/lang_kd/7 ... lbum.jhtml

for a time, you could hear the entirety of kd lang's new album at the above URL - including, of course, her version of "Hallelujah"

now, however, it's only a 28 second song clip ~ still, for anyone who's not heard it at all, it may be of interest :D
