Dear Friends
I have been following this forum for a few years but have not yet contributed to it.
Have just uploaded a video of Suzanne taken at last night's excellent show in San Jose for you all to enjoy.
I will also upload some pictures to my Flickr account and let you have the link once it's done.
Best wishes

Good description Marsha. It really was "flawless". Missed seeing you at the show. (Looks like he'll be back though! :)) My husband and I were in a huge rush getting there and getting out. But I would never dream of leaving during an encore...I can't believe how many people were doing that.

Thanks for the Secret Life video Baldwyn. I'm always in awe at the control he has over his voice in that song. A very special song for me - the first LC song I ever heard.

Well, I seem to be the only one with a deep disappointment with the venue. Having heard Leonard in Austin at the Long Center, where even in the absolute nosebleed section the concert was an immersive experience, this was very subpar. We had excellent seats in San Jose (to some degree) off to the side with perfect stage view and not too far from the floor. Perhaps next time (and I do hope there is a next time) we should go to the floor despite the price, maybe it sounded better down there, but I'm short, I wonder if all I would have seen was heads.

For a number of songs it was a complete f-ing cluster of late people blocking views of the stage. Seriously people, it was rediculous. I had to watch on a screen that was off and up to the left of me. There were people sitting in the aisles, people in the wrong seats, people standing in front of me more times than I can count. Ushers with about zero clue. This was for about the first 3 songs after the start and the break. No joke. The people around me in their seats were gems though, thankfully!

Then somewhere around 10pm some weird hissing sound started appearing from left rear as far as I can tell. I thought it was some idiot at first, but something in the sound system had gone horribly wrong and they never fixed it for the rest of the concert. Sound was often muffled and muddy as well. The hissing seemed to be some sort of thing like "s" type sounds escaping and running free -- I am not a sound person, I have no idea what it was besides annoying.

It was still a wonderful concert and I didn't want it to end -- and it really flew by timewise, but ughhh, what a horrible venue. When you just want to be there in the moment and everything keeps pulling you our of your happy place ... that is a disappointment. Oh yeah, and people with video -- having to see your screen when in sightlines for the stage -- yeah, that's kinda annoying too. I use my head to remember experiences. I may be in the minority in that view, but I don't really care.

I absolutely loved this seat and would choose this section for future shows at this venue. As Jen said, I think the floor level beyond the first few rows would be a sea of heads. I loved being up high like this, but still not too far away. We had a great view of Leonard the whole time. Also, you can't see it in the pic, but there was a huge screen directly to the right of us, practically in our faces, on which we could count Leonard's pores, if we were so inclined. (well, yeah, ok, I was.) The technicians behind the curtains there were also an endless source of fascination.

A beautifully done concert. We missed Dino from the start, but as promised, Leonard gave all that he could give. The jaws harp on Democracy. The subline Webb sisters doing Coming Back To You. No Partisan (I missed hearing Javier Mas on this) or Closing Time, but his version of Save the Last Dance for Me was a fun surprise. Yes, it was Leonard. What more could anyone want?

I'm 16, and I totally enjoyed it!!!

It was the first time I saw him performing live, and it was just... unbelievable!!!
He didn't talk much, but at the beginning of Part II, he actually said "I'm glad you didn't go home"... he was so funny~

I read his Book of Longing and Stranger Music -- they are great poetry. This Wednesday seeing him live is definitely an incredibly meaningful experience for me...

Hope to see him again (don't start smoking!)

From Sal Pizarro's column in the Mercury News: http://www.mercurynews.com/sal-pizarro/ ... und-corner
TOUCH OF CLASS: When the legendary Leonard Cohen checked into the Hotel De Anza on Tuesday afternoon, in advance of his Wednesday night show at HP Pavilion, his main priority was finding a place where he and his group could watch the election results. General Manger Alison McKennon pointed them to the Hedley Club Lounge, which showed TV coverage of the election all night.

Cohen returned to the Hedley Club on Thursday before departing to Seattle and chatted with daytime bartender Harold Martin, who is a bassist himself. Martin asked the 78-year-old singer and songwriter how Wednesday's show went, Cohen responded, "No one asked for their money back."

Baldwin, you should have seen the show in L A I guess nobody had a voice there at all. I do not understand why some people even go.
