Coming So Far for Song

Good morning, friends,

I've just had a delightful telephone conversation with Ali Hughes in Australia. She and her band are so excited about playing in Dublin at the Event and are really looking forward to the weekend and all it will entail. Isn't it wonderful that we have artists of the calibre of Ali Hughes travelling all the way from Australia to play at the Leonard Cohen Event in Dublin.

Check out Ali and the Thieves on Youtube -- don't have time to get the links for you folks as it's getting ready for school and work time here in Dublin.

Let the music keep our spirits high.

Paula

ah Paula, forgive me I couldn't help myself, maybe you like Jackson Browne.....that's a chorus line from his song "Before The Deluge" :)

btw - Jennifer Warnes is one of the back up singers.

But I really wanted to say that's great Ali Hughes from Sydney is coming all the way from the land down under to be in the Event!
Now Andrew will have at least one Aussie beside himself who will be there! I will be there in spirit :)

we will be forever grateful to mr browne for writing 'before the deluge' but for most folk on the island and for members of the vast army of plastic paddys like meself this song belongs only to one man...and here he giving it his all a couple of weeks ago in glasgow accompanied by the mighty barrowlands choir...

Met and saw Ali perform in New York, and she's WONDERFUL all the way around ~ as a performer and as a person.
So happy that she'll still be coming 8)

A powerful publicity photo. Too bad the entire play can't be included... though I know how impossible that is, even as I say it. Just a wish, a dream.

Thanks for the links to Ali and the Thieves.
Really something to look forward to.
Ken might even hold back his gun in case they play a Hallelujah cover ...

Respects to Paula and the organization team!

ah Ken,
That explains it! I was wondering if it was just a coincidence or Paula actually was familiar with Jackson Browne’s line. I wonder also if JB is aware his song is so well known over there. And speaking of plastic paddys, (but you probably know this) Australian Eric Bogle wrote a song called “Plastic Paddys” and the last two lines say “where are you when we need you, Christy Moore?” Glad you had a great time at the concert! btw - a good proportion of the population in Australia are plastic paddys! And I should tell you that one of my favourite Irish songs I play on my violin is “I Wish I Was Back In Liverpool” :)

We've seen Ali and Thieves several times now, including their first NYC Fringe festival performance with Esther Cohen. Her beauty and amazing talents always blow us away. Congrats Paula for a great addition!

I believe Dick meant that they were WITH Esther when they saw Ali perform. Though Esther made a wonderfully graceful and lovely toast to everyone that night.

Lizzy is correct -- sorry if I was not clear. Esther refuses to compete with her brother by performing on stage. :-)
