Description:
Track I, Kalvøyafestivalen (Isle of Calf Music Festival), June 30, 1985:
Kalvøya is an island just outside Oslo, Norway, where the annual music festival Kalvøyafestivalen was held from 1971 to 1997.
This VHS tape recording from TV was done by a friend of mine. He was a bit slow to press the record button, so the opening song, "Memories", is faded in. The image is a bit blurred - not the best quality - but to my knowledge this is the only recording in existence of the concert, or at least the only one that has surfaced so far. (NRK probably has a copy of the programme.) The recording ends with an 11 minutes long "I Tried to Leave You".
Track II, Oslo Konserthus (Oslo Concert Hall), May, 1988:
TV programme title: "Take This Waltz - Leonard Cohen Europe 1988".
This is my own VHS taping of the complete TV programme, but it's not the complete concert. Cohen held two concerts in Oslo on this occasion, on May 1st and May 7th. I don't know from which concert the recordings are - maybe some from both. In the TV programmme the concert is interspersed with interviews which often - unfortunately - cut off the songs. The interviewer is Vera Kvaal, and the interviews are interesting enough, but there ought to be a law against cutting off songs like that. Good image and sound quality on this one.
