CONCERT REPORTS: Amsterdam, Aug 21 & 22

Post by Maarten »

Curfew was at 11.30pm so they had to finish on time. Leonard Cohen said they could only do 5 mins of First We Take... and while singing took his clock that's always on stage with him and showed it during the song. Roscoe Beck had to signal Leonard Cohen to stop singing in the end. Small report because it's from my iPod...

This is has to be one of the top wonderful Leonard Cohen magical moments!

During "First We Take Manhattan", at 2.31 the stadium screen shows LC bending down to retrieve his clock and parades with the face showing the time 11:30.

This clock is usually positioned at the bottom of his sound monitors and out of sight.

The audience reacts with laughter and then Sharon has to cover his lines for a while.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

Maarten: Thank you for uploading the setlist so quickly.
Is anyone keeping a grid by song, how many times performed and where?
Is it my imagination or are the number of songs from the new album declining?

Its where it all started for me...and thats another story for another time...
I did receive a text right after the concert from a friend 8) and now this video and news about the clock. Looking forward to hearing more..

Thank very very much you for posting the setlist and video's so quick.
" First we take Manhattan": yes absolutely priceless. This was an extremely funny, unprecidented and also moving ending to a Leonard Cohen concert. It was a wonderful wonderful evening with some of my very favorite songs such as "Coming back to You", "Alexandra Leaving", "Light as the Breese" and the very beautiful and touching "Night Comes On"!!!
The clouds though threatening all evening, did not burst, but just as Leonard Cohen and the band were leaving the stage the first drops fell of what was to be a very heafty shower. So just as well that the concert had to end at 23:30hrs sharp. However we did miss our 'Closing Time' and "Here's a man still working for your smile" ;-).

Light as a breeze ... the night came on. I wanted that night to go on and on ....
Two of my favourite songs that I had not heard before in a concert. So happy to hear these songs.
Also a beautiful version of Coming back to you by the Webb ladies and Roscoe on the
contrabas and an absolutely outstanding version of Alexandra leaving sung completely by Sharon Robinson. What a voice!
I have always missed a violin in the shows and Alex is a wonderful musician. However, I missed also the solos of Dino and all the instruments he could play.
Two shows for me, the first in Ghent, the first in Amsterdam, that's it. Amen.
Going home, going back to the world.

Wow! He gives really everything, that he's got; in every City, at every Stage. We can't hardly wait until Saturday to see and hear LC and the whole Band in such superb spirit in Kopenhagen )!
And at every single Concert, something is different. What a Tour. What a gift, what a privilege to see him again on the Stages around the World!
And he is really always good for Surprises, which that Clip clearly shows.
I'll bet, that he has some Surprises in his Pocket...other Songs, new ones, another Tour or whatever.
What a Personality, what a Man!
"We'll keep on goin' until the Wheelchair is rosting"....
Just absolutely outstanding!
He gives the crowd more than 3:40 full of beautiful Songs. He give so much into his Songs, surrounded with handpicked Musicians...
For me it is quite a Highlight in my Life!

And it seems that he has still having Fun on the Stages!
And as long he feels this Way, everything will be ok!
