In the summer of 2012, Leonard invited me to see his tour rehearsal. I assumed there would be several dozen people there, but I was the only one he had invited. It took a few songs for it to fully sink in that I was essentially being given a private concert. During a break, I asked him if it would be okay if I shot some video on my iPhone. He immediately agreed. "It helps me to have some distractions," he said. I've only shown this footage to a few friends. I hope you enjoy it."

Leonard Cohen's gracious friendship, his burnished wisdom and his magnificent music have been an immeasurably important feature of my life for over 25 years.
I took this picture a few weeks ago. He had just played me his exquisite new album and seemed simultaneously jovial and serene.
I will miss this kind and beautiful man terribly for the rest of my days."

I took this photo of Leonard some time in the late 90's in his extremely humble Los Angeles apartment. He was so funny and wise and kind. He loved life cheerfully and did such superb job of living his.
