2012 Leonard Cohen Event
Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
Hi Arlene ~
Even though you specifically addressed Joe, I want to say that I have NOooo doubt that you will be helping in a MAJOR way with all of the Events you attend... if you chose to do nothing else, your photographic contributions chronicling our Event[s] would be a tremendous service ! I have every reason to believe you will do that, anyway, without being assigned or asked . It's who you are.
Not, of course, with your willingness, that Joe won't have something else he'll need you and/or you'll want to do. You're a wonderful resource.

Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
Hi Lizzy,
I completely agree that Joe or Bonnie's willingnes to organize is a key factor in determining the location and that's as it should be. I'd volunteer to organize a Nashville event myself, but given my lack of experience in such things and the fact I've never been able to attend an event causes me to hesitate to do so. The last thing I'd want to do is screw it up! My offer to help stands regardless of the 2012 destination, as I'd really love to be involved this time.
Best,
Christian

Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
First of all, thanks again for the many kind offers to assist. Wherever it is and whoever organizes it, will need many hands.
Christian,
Thank you so much for posting again about Nashville. As you know, I was really torn and my initial inclination was to try and be the chairperson for Nashville. It certainly helped to meet such great folks like you when we visited and your offers of assistance. In fact I postponed making a decision for quite some time, but the distance for Anne & I is too great to make the multiple trips back to Nashville to check out venues etc. We would need both casual gathering space and a performance venue that can handle anywhere from 200 to 300 people. In our brief time there, I didn't see any likely, reasonably priced candidates. You can still try to change my mind if you have some venues in mind. I think hotels would not be a problem as there are many to choose from in the downtown area. I would gladly help on the committee, but I still feel that the chairperson should be someone local (or at least within a reasonable traveling distance). I'm not sure how often, Dick & Linda traveled to NYC, but I know that it was necessary for them on, at least, a couple of occasions-Anne & I went to NYC to check out the dorms and make arrangements etc. also.
We can keep discussing it for a little while before a final decision is made, but, at some point soon, we will need to turn our attention to the Krakow Event.
It's great to hear from you.
Joe

I too appreciate the offer from Christian. You may well be a chair in the near future.
Just to answer the question Joe raised, Linda and I made at least 12 trips into NYC, including a couple of overnight visits, to check out Bottom Line, Knitting Factory, International House, Riverside Church, and numerous locales that we didn't use in 2004.
Nashville will hopefully make a great gathering spot at some point, but I think it unfair to toss the burden to someone who has not yet experienced it, and concur with Joe, that he is best suited to dealing with familiar territory.
Feeling really bad that we are gonna have to miss Krackow! Know Sebastian, Justyna, Pawel and the Polish crew are going to make all that do go very happy!

You and Linda aren't going to Cracow, Dick!?! WHY!!!!?! [This better be good.] Please email me if it's too private a matter for here. Cracow's going to be awesome! It's hard to imagine you two not being there.
Right. Organizing the Events... or even being involved in their organization... is labor intensive. Labour of love ... yet, still intensive.
Your willingness and skills will be put to good use, Christian. In that you can rest assured .

Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
It is really about the money Lizzy
We over reached with concert tickets and travel (Nashville, Vegas, San Francisco) last year, and had enormous house upkeep as well (Paint, Kitchen, New Roofing, etc.)
You recall how much we loved Crackow and our great Polish friends doing the organizing, so can understand it was not an easy decision to reach.
Our fond thoughts will be with all who are attending another memorable Cohen gathering. Better be lots of internet cafe posts on a regular basis!
Thanks for caring. And for the help you gave us in New York.

Hi everyone,
My vote is for Chicago. Dan always raves about Chicago, and I have always wanted to see the city.
I hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers,
Natalie

Thank you, Lizzytysh, for your kind words. I will do whatever I can.lizzytysh wrote: You're a wonderful resource.
After meeting Joe and Anne in Nashville, I am convinced that the 2012 LC Event is in very capable hands and will be a major success.
Among its many wonderful attractions, Madison has a very active Bridge Club at 2818 Todd Drive. So, if I need a quick fix, I know where to drop in.

Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
You're welcome, Arlene. How provident that bridge should be so nearby. Perhaps, some of your bridge folks will see fit to join us in some open meeting and begin to understand your love of all things Cohen.
I'm already looking forward to whatever video piece you'll be bringing all of us [attendees and non-attendees] after the Event.
Love,
Lizzy
Absolutely. I wanted to clarify, too, [upon rereading, feeling it might be called for] that my strong endorsement of Madison far exceeded the issue of expediency. It was ONLY because I knew that it would be Joe and Anne at the helm that I could do so without hesitation. So, I did not hesitate. After meeting Joe and Anne in Nashville, I am convinced that the 2012 LC Event is in very capable hands and will be a major success.

Hi Joe and Anne,
Even though I was a tad dubious at the beginning with the idea of Madison, I was truly ignorant of the area but have been checking it out and talking with others familiar with the territory. While I think Nashville would be awesome, it is your experience with previous LC events that pulls me in the direction of Madison. Although it is still 2 years away please accept my offer of any assistance as the time gets closer. I live only a short distance away in Michigan right now, and as I work for an airline it would be no problem to zip back and forth if necessary.
Krakow should indeed be centre stage at the moment, but just wanted to touch bases with you.
Warm regards,
Diana

Re: 2012 Leonard Cohen Event
Thank you for letting me know that, Dick. I understand too well, since I'm still not 'even' with my trip to see Leonard at Red Rocks. It's a hard way to go in this economy, at least for some of us who have to travel long distances. I've had a host of unexpected, yet urgent, expenses, too.
Yes, I do recall how much you loved Cracow and all of the Polish friends we made. It could only be a tough decision.
You're welcome, of course, for my help with New York. It was such a pleasure. One can wonder beforehand "Am I up to the task? Will I fail or disappoint?" Yet, once doing it, everyone finds they receive all kinds of support from many directions. There will always be someone to ask or who will lend a hand or an idea. It's "all hands on deck" that are needed to make it all happen, though. So, I hope people will feel free to volunteer. Everyone has their own strengths and preferences, and there seems to be plenty of room to accommodate whatever any particular individual's are. [You're still wise to want to wait when it comes to taking on the role of organizer, though, Christian . That's a different animal.]
Yes, Natalie. I would love a side trip to Chicago, too.
Diana ~ You're going to be a GREAT help in all of this. Such a benefit you have with your ability to travel, too. WoW. That's huge. And it's not even that far to begin with. It's at times like this that I wish I lived so close. When Nashville originally surfaced as a potential location, I was very excited, as it would be so easy for me to travel there... and, of course, I want to see and experience Nashville. I don't mind Nashville waiting its turn, though, when everything falls so beautifully into place with Joe in Madison.

Hi Joe,
It was really good to see your post and I'm fully supportive of Madison as the location. I think the combination of your experience and the fact you a located there will make for a great event and if there is anything I can do to help I'd be happy to do so. Let's keep Nashville in mind for a future event down the road!
I hope all of you going to Krakow have a wonderful time - I won't be able to join you, but am already looking forward to Madison in 2012.

Now thattttttttttttt sounds tempting Dem, I have never been there yet. Cannot wait for my first experience of Hydra.
Although I can not think of a better person than Joe as the ambassador of the event if it happens in Madison, it will be quite expensive for a lot of us on this side of the pond to get to, so I cannot see myself being at it, but lets look forward to Kracow for the moment

Our future plans include another Hydra meetup in June 2011, one year after Krakow and one year before Madison...
