Leonard Cohen's Montreal house

Post by jillian0108 »

Just returned from a vacation in beautiful Montreal. I made a "pilgrimage" to his home in front of Parc Portugale ( a three story stone row house). The park has a gazebo and is closed to the public for renovations. Leonard Cohen's house has graffiti on it.

Hoping to visit Montreal next year. My grandfather and his family came from Montreal, but I have never been (I never had the chance to meet him either, as he died before I lived).

That's too bad, James.
Geez, cohenadmirer, from what you're saying, it sounds like the neighbourhood may be going downhill :(

I was there in December - small bit of graffiti on the front. Think it's been there a while.

At least it's only a little bit... hopefully, it speaks of love.

i am going to Montreal in October, and would love to visit the house, I am unlikely to be ever back there, and so would love to see it, would someone be able to give me the address, just so that I am looking at the correct house? :D

Right. Perhaps, see if you can get a close-up of said graffiti. Maybe we can make out the words, if there are any.
confetti... graffiti... seems fated that you should take the photos :)
Thanks, confetti... may you have a safe one and enjoy your trip :D !

Here is a photo I took in Sept. 2011, showing the grafitti. Confetti will have to let us know if it is still the same now.

Lizzy in my opinion the neighborhood is far from going downhill. I was there in November 2012, saw the graffiti
but it was of no concern. The park is very sweet and the area very cool, urban and multicultural.

I thought it was still there then, but didn't remember for sure because it was of such little significance, & I didn't take any photos that time. I agree with Leslie, the neighborhood is really beautiful - very multicultural, with alot of really quaint little streets & interesting stores & restaurants (esp. the bagel shop across the street) - & it is very cool! I would move there in a second if it was feasible.
