CONCERT REPORT: Katowice, Poland, October 4, 2010

Post by sturgess66 »

The venue in Katowice, Poland is the Spodek.

Image

Spodek (saucer in Polish) is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened in 1971
Aside from the main dome, the complex includes a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and three large car parks. It is the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland. It hosts many important cultural and business events. Music concerts are especially common non-sport events. Spodek can hold 11,500 people, although this number is in practice limited to 10,000 or even 8,000 due to stage set-ups obscuring the view. Its name is "saucer" in Polish as it resembles a tilted flying saucer.

Soundcheck in the saucer and today’s curveball, a press junket from Warsaw has shown up and LC has given them a very rare go-ahead to hangout and shoot a little of the soundcheck. Warsaw count yourself lucky as this kind of thing happens never.

Yikes!!

That’s intermission and it’s a race back to the greenroom. One thing that failed to be mentioned in any of the advance work, this venue doesn’t have heating. Seriously. What do they do in the winter? In Poland!
Second set in twenty.

The band has defrosted backstage and now it’s second set time in the saucer.

It seems that St. Margarethen wasn't the last gig where the band had to freeze...

I just looked and it is about 58 degrees F. there now - with a low this evening of 41 F. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

So this is how those screen shots happen -

Just off stage left, producer Ed Sanders is bunkered down in video village calling the shots for the screens.

Doesn't look like they're bundled up either. Where are their scarves at least?

iPhone! Joey is a master! He has an incredible sense of colour/shadows/lines and other weird stuff! I think the phone/camera has morphed into part of his body and the photos simply flow....he has become one with his subject matter!
