Cohen Sells Out In Six Minutes

Leonard Cohen @ Lissadell House, County Sligo

31st July Sold Out

Second date has been added for Sunday, 1st August

Tickets on sale 9.30am TODAY 26th April for second date

Due to unprecedented demand for Leonard Cohens’ intimate seated outdoor
concert in the dramatically beautiful setting of Lissadell House, Co. Sligo
on the 31st July, POD and AEG Live have now added a second date for Cohen
fans on the Sunday 1st August. Tickets for the second date will go on sale today, 26th April at 9.30am

Leonards first concert at Lissadell sold out in a remarkable six minutes and
adds to Leonards impressive list in Ireland, having already played 3
sold out shows in Kilmainham, 4 in the O2 and 1 in Belfast’s Odyssey in the
past 3 years, garnering 5 star reviews across the board and achieving ‘Best
International Live Performance ‘for a second time at this year’s Meteor
Awards.

A celebrated and much lauded singer/songwriter Cohen first emerged as a
major and influential talent in the early 60s. Albums like Songs Of Leonard
Cohen (1967), Songs Of Love And Hate (1970) and I’m Your Man (1990), right
up to 1992’s The Future, 2001’s Ten New Songs and 2004’s Dear Heather are
rightly considered classics. Uniquely for a revered musician, Cohen’s
literary plaudits rival those for his music.

His songs have been famously covered by the great and the good, each version
a fascinating attempt to move closer to Cohen’s enigmatic muse. From Judy
Collins’ “Suzanne” to Jeff Buckley’s seminal rendition of “Hallelujah,”
Cohen’s songs have travelled as far and wide as their author. U2, REM,
Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and the late Johnny Cash are among other
famous devotees. It is estimated that his songbook has been covered over
1,330 times by other recording artists.

“When Leonard Cohen takes to the stage, it’s no less than a cultural event
of Biblical dimensions”
Sunday Independent

“What I witnessed was soul inspiring on every level, I have never been so
moved by a performance, Everything about the night was magical”
Irish Independent

“When he pushes his voice that extra yard for Hallelujah, his 10,000 guests
rise as one in a standing ovation. Well, when you’re in the presence of
someone with such class and vintage, it’s only good manners”
Irish Times

Why Lissadell? Leonard Cohen is both a fan and a student of W.B Yeats.
W.B.Yeats visited and stayed at Lissadell in his youth, and this location
was great inspiration to Yeats in his many works. Marrying Cohen’s love of
Yeats, the performance of one of the greatest singer songwriters of modern
times, and the magic of Lissadell, an event of breathtaking magnificence
will unfold.

‘’That old Georgian Mansion” – Lissadell House, as referred to by W.B.
Yeats (In Memory Of Eva Gore-Booth And Countess Markiewicz) was a holiday
home to the poet .

Sweeping down to the wild shores of the Atlantic Ocean, The Lissadell House
gardens have been lovingly restored in recent years by Edward Walsh and
Constance Cassidy who bought the property in 2003.

Tickets, from €80 including booking fee on sale at 9.30am TODAY 26TH APRIL at Ticketmaster
and usual outlets

Thank god westlife are not playing as support to cohen, although i sppose my wife does like them and it might have given her some light entertainment before the real musician took to the stage and not the karaoke specialist...

I couldn't even contemplate that idea of Westlife supporting Leonard. I reckon their show will be a sell out too though as fans will want to see them in their home county.

Unfortunately it has now been announced that Westlife are to play Lissadel House the night before LC.

I suppose if you are setting up a stage and seats you take advantage of this but I dislike the way it is now looking like a weekend music festival with Westlife (talentless tossers) and LC. It is ofcourse not.

It is like chalk and cheese really but Westlife in their ego trip will see it as elevating them to a degree of artistry and critical acceptability. Only in Ireland !

How about reviving this thread for discussion of ANYTHING else even remotely connected to Lissadell, ( except for "help" which now has a designated thread,) since "the lads" are bickering on the more recently opened threads about what exactly should be discussed ? Do we REALLY need all these threads for Sligo ? Most of the other venues seem to be managing fine with just one. Sad, really; the words of Brendan Behan come to mind; "The first item for discussion on the agenda is THE SPLIT ".

Great idea... hope you don't think I'm one of the "bickering lads" I'm just looking forward to another great evening, and meeting lots of chilled & relaxed fellow fans.... I'm happy to keep ALL my Lissadell stuff on here, and hopefully avoid upsetting anyone.... I'll just try not to go on about the midges too much

I am all for common sense, surely we can all live with a bit of banter and dare I say, mischievousness, ó am go h'am. One thread fits all, says I, it is easy to skim over the bits that are not relevant. That little red ball bobbing up and down annoys me far more than anything ever written here. :D

totally agree with comments above, it becomes very unpleasant if you really need to deliberate before leaving a message in case you cause annoyance so it would be great if this thread could continue

Great idea Ann..

My little effort on "Go Sligo Go" was intended as a helping hand
to those who are heading for Ireland / Sligo for the first time..

Moving on..... let's look forward to the wonderful night we'll all be having... anyone remember the promise of glorious sunsets over the Atlantic....? I've travelled pretty much all over the world, but the sunsets I come home to are better than any I've seen elsewhere... be great if the band have their backs to the ocean, and the sun sets behind them.... well, they wouldn't want it shining in their eyes, would they??
