The Faith / folk song

Post by robertchao »

The notes say The Faith is based on a Quebec folk song. Is it Un Canadien Errant? A little part of the melody sounds like it.

I hated LC's version of UCE but there is a good one by John & Mary, a spinioff of 10,000 Maniacs.

To most people it really sounds like the melody of Un Canadien Errant, but it's interesting fact that booklet choosed not to tell that (as Tchocolatl remarked 8) ).

Tom, that fact puzzles me as well. Maybe "The Faith" is not based on UCE but on an older "Québecois folk song" on which UCE was drawing. In another thread the history of the song has been detailed into, but I'd love to take a closer look at the complete words of the older versions...

So much work to do!

Tom
