Hotels in Las Vegas

I am wondering where people are staying in Las Vegas. I have booked at Caesar's Palace as that made it easy...but I noticed prices have gone up since I booked a few weeks ago. I hope they go down again. I saw that at the Mirage next door to CP they have an anniversary special so that might be a good option.
The Mirage has a nightly free outdoor show 8pm hourly called Volcano..that I heard has great music and is done in sync by the people that did the Bellagio water fountains set to music..also a good thing to watch...Volcano has Zakir Hussein (famous tabla player) and Mickey Hart on drums...The Mandalay is very tropical and not so glitzy fake as some of the hotels..but it is 1-2 miles at the end of the strip. It sounds like I have been there a lot which I haven't as it is not my scene but fun for a day or 2...We were there for xmas for 2 nights in December as a start on a road trip through Death Valley onto Lone Pine for a great photography trip.

I booked at the Imperial Palace for one night which is across the street for 40 dollars (taxes included). You can find this deal on Orbitz. I got it as a package deal through Expedia.

I haven't booked it yet but we plan to stay at the Mirage. We haven't been there since the remodel and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turned out. I haven't chimed in on the Vegas thread because it looks like most of you will be heading to San Jose and won't really have time to explore Vegas or the area.
(I live 90 miles from Vegas. It's my local airport so I've been there many times.) Most of you guys have probably been to Vegas anyway and there's tons of info online. The strip is a madhouse though and most of you know the whole area is designed to dazzle you. Unless you have time to really get out and explore, one casino is pretty much like the rest. (I got married there once at the Little White Chapel drive through. What happens in Vegas doesn't always end in Vegas. It can follow you for years!)

Enjoy the concert, have fun, get drunk, gamble, and get lucky. Well, maybe not too lucky!!

I think most of us are arriving in Vegas on the 11th and plan to do at least one side trip....either the Dam, Mt. Charleston, the Red Rocks area, or Valley of Fire. A couple of us plan to rent cars so it could be a small group effort depending on where people want to go. I lived in Las Vegas for 8 years and prior to that I was at the Grand Canyon for 8 years, so it's sort of like "going home" for me, although I prefer spending time at the Canyon...but then the trip to Vegas is for Leonard concert, so he is numero uno! Wouldn't Leonard at the Canyon be cool....

I'm sure a lot will simply want to hang out in Vegas at the casinos and relax. Are you coming in from Kingman for the concert? Or is that a silly question

Sounds like you will be the perfect tour guide Diane. Good to hear a group will be leaving Las Vegas and taking in some of the local sites. (As you know the dam can be congested and crowded. But, hey, that's the nature of "tourist" attractions.) I've been a tourist and there are some places that are nice to see in spite of the crowds.

I actually haven't even bought a ticket to the gig but I'm heading to Vegas hoping to meet-up with a few friends. I have heard that there are still tickets for the "cheap" seats, only $26!, even I can afford that, so I'll probably go to the show too. I saw LC in Oakland and that was fine for me. If he plays a nice little coffee shop venue, I'm there for sure. But I think those days of hoping for a "concert for a few diehard fans" is long gone. Where did all these damn dam fans come from. hehe

I'll watch for a Vegas "meet-up" announcement here.

We too got rooms at the Imperial which is immediately across the Strip from Caesars. For anyone flying from Canada, I suggest Westjet vacations, great package air and hotel. I think ours was closed to about 30 a night! It's a 2 star hotel, but perfectly fine unless you really require high brow digs!

First time on here, we saw LC in Vancouver BC our home town, and on a whim we decided we MUST see one more time on this tour. I made a mistake and we ended up in the hgh balcony at Caesars but dead center, and from everything I have heard it has fantastic sightlines and great acoustics. Besides, for anyone who has NOT experienced this tour, the production values are EXTREMELY good. When LC played here, they made a hockey rink sound as intimate as a small theater, so if they can do that, they can make the 4,000 seat Caesars sound fine everywhere.

By the way someone posted there are still 25 $ seats yes, they are on the extreme sides of the high balcony, but other than craning your neck, its still not bad I bet. Thank goodness for video screens!
