This wee note is for the following gorgeous people:
Roman, Mary & George, Lizzy, Denise, Kelsey, Lesley and Diana and friend Dave
While not in any way intended to leave others out, it’s just that I meet these few and there is, I feel, a bond.
I finally got some strength back today (Friday), it’s just after 6.00pm as I write, in fact this afternoon, I poured a decent red wine (West Australian Vasse Felix of course), turned on the home theatre system and cranked up the London concert DVD.
How blessed we are to have this fabulous memento of Leonard’s all-conquering tour. Yes, I’m sad that I missed the Wet Rocks Concert That Never Was (I’ve renamed the venue too!), but I have such vivid memories of the outdoor concert here In Perth, that in the scheme of things, it’s no big deal, besides, if I hadn’t have come over, I wouldn’t have met you guys, nor would I have seen my much loved friends in Washington and my Oklahoma mate Sherry, as they say, it’s an ill wind.
Roman, what a magic bloke you are, nothing was too much trouble, you just went with the flow and the two books you gave me I will always treasure, I did not have either of them.
Mary and George, fabulous couple, loved you both, George looks uncannily like the bass player from Dire Straits, in fact I thought it was him for a few minutes. It’s so good to see a genuine couple and although Mary can only be described, in the best Australian tradition, as being as ‘mad as a cut snake,’ going to all the Cohen concerts, however it’s the sort of madness that makes the world a better place, onya babe. Oh yes, as promised, I’ll attach the photo I took of your photo of you and Leonard.
Lesley, time was all too short, but one day I hope to see Vancouver and maybe we’ll meet for wine and Cohen, at least we have the photos to prove we met, you were such a lovely person.
Unfortunately, there was no opportunity to take a photo of the gorgeous expectant mum, Kelsey, such an obviously lovely person, I felt so sorry that you also couldn’t stay and needed to get back to your young daughter, but at least it will be reasonably easy to catch Leonard again, somewhere in the States and from memory, you had seen an earlier concert, (forgive me if I’ve got that wrong).
Lizzy. Ahh, as I told my friend Sherry, if I lived in the US of A, I am quite certain I’d be wearing the fedora of Bashful Suitor - hopefully I won’t embarrass you be publicly stating that and you’ll take it as a compliment. Just a gorgeous lady, who still has the bloke from down under thinking, “Wow, I LIKED her.”
And last, but certainly not least, Diana and Dave. We barely had time for a passing nod to each other, as we were both on phones trying to change plans, then you guys shot back up to the mountains and I shot off for the Land Down Under, but at least we can now put faces to the names and I look forward to further contact.
Since getting home, I’ve realised there’s something else I’d love to give you all, if you can send me your snail mail addresses, I’ll pop them in the mail sometime next week. My contact email is:
gregross7@bigpond.com
And if any of you are ever down this way, looking to try our beaches, our forests, our wine, our weather and our hospitality, I’ve always got a spare double bedroom and a spare car, struth, there’s even the cruiser motorbike if you like two wheeling.
Now, I’ve finally been given the medical all clear at last, so I can go hug my granddaughters and give them all the stuff I bought at Disneyland, be seeing you. As for the other photo, that’s me with one of my all time favourite movie characters.
Here's Lookin' at Ya Kids!
