Hi Denise, Mary, Roman, Greg, Diana,
We're also Row 17 seaters at Red Rocks -- the venue looks amazing. Will be getting a preview on May 2 at the historic Orpheum Theater in Mpls. Last saw LC in 1993 and expectations running high! Interested in pre, post-concert meetup.

Greg –
Thank you for your beautifully crafted impressions from Leonard Cohen Concert at Sandalford Winery and great photographs. I simply misunderstood your previous post. Anyway, welcome to our Red Rocks circle.

Carla, Diana –
Welcome, I’m glad that our circle is growing. We will have a good time in Red Rocks.

Cheers,

Roman

Hello again the everyone going to Red Rocks. Looks like we all purchased tickets in the fan presale. Since these are all will call tickets and we will be busy  before the concert, does it make more sense to make it a post concert meetup?

Best regards,
Mary

Roman,

Since you live in Denver, maybe you might be able to help. When people fly in for a concert @ Red Rocks, do they tend to stay in Denver and just drive out for the concert or do they stay, in let's say Golden because it's closer to the venue - I'm at a loss after doing a bit of research :? . In this instance, I guess it might also depend on whether there is a meetup (fingers crossed, 'cause this went a little silent :o ) and the location of the meetup. Any thoughts or advice from you or anyone else would be greatly appreciated!

Warmest regards,
Mary

Mary –
Let me take a look at the venue & vicinity (I will do that this upcoming week-end) and I will come with some options where to set up our meetup. I will explore also a hotel/lodging issue. I think that there are many decent hotels/motels in the venue are and Denver location might be good only when you like the idea of meetup in LoDo (Denver Downtown) but it might be more expensive than in Golden.

Hi Mary and Roman,

My friend Dave and I are definitely interested in a meetup also! I've been looking at hotels but have no idea whether to book one in Golden or in the Lakewood area back towards Denver. Guess my decision will be based on where we have a possible post-concert meetup. Everything seems to be within 5-6 miles of Red Rocks so whichever direction would be do-able and there are lots of hotels to choose from. Roman, thank you so much for checking things out and look forward to your expert suggestions ;-) .

All the best,
Diana

Salutations people

My friend and I are flying in to Denver on Sunday 31st May and wondered if anybody could tell us a nice place to stay, it doesn't have to be five star, just elegant. Also, for us, Monday 1st June would be a wonderful time to meet up with everyone, as we fly out on Wednesday 3rd June.

Any help would be wonderfully appreciated, meanwhile there's some 50 of us here in Western Australia, holding a reunion Leonard's Sandalford Winery Concert on Sunday 15ht March, so the reunions are happening down-under already!
Cheers
All Good Things

Hi Greg,

I remember reading all the wonderful posts (and looking at the photos) from when Leonard performed at the Sandalford Winery! Although it was only back in January I think it's awesome that you're having a bit of a reunion already! There is something special when a group of Leonard Cohen fans come together, and mutual love for his music and poetry can forge lasting friendships!

I'm not familiar with Denver. We fly to Denver every few months but just pick up a car rental and head straight to Estes Park which is a lovely little town just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. We've always avoided Denver itself.

Look forward to meeting you in June! It will be a treasured concert....Leonard's last one in the US and at a magnificent venue!

All the best,
Diana

Greg –
I will be working on hotel/meetup location issues this weekend and I will let you know what’s going on as soon as possible. I don’t think that there is any hotel near Red Rocks but I might be wrong. We will see. I’m looking forward to meeting you and like the idea of pre-concert meetup on Monday, June 1, 2009.

Diana –
Welcome to Red Rocks circle. You said that you usually avoid Denver so this time might be no different, you can leave Denver on the side traveling to possible hotel and Red Rocks and just forget it unless you want to see Denver very much.
I will let you know what might be the best hotel to stay and where we all can meet before and/or after the concert.

Warm Regards,

Roman

Boulder is a popular town near Denver...might be a nice place to stay up against the moutains, instead of in Denver proper.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROMAN AND GREG!

Postby ladydi » Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:19 pm

Oh m'gosh! I just scrolled to the bottom of the first page and noticed that besides a mutual appreciation for the music of Leonard, you both mutually share a birthdate!

Happy Birthday to both of you, although maybe it's already tomorrow in Australia, in which case it's a belated one Greg! Hope you both are enjoying a good one, and Roman, now I see that part of your scouting weekend is actually part of a birthday celebration and you're taking the time to check out things for all of us. That is so considerate of you!

All the best!

Diana –
Thank you. It happened, I was born like this, I had no choice, one beautiful sunny spring Sunday just three days after The Sun of Humankind, The Great Murderer, Joseph Stalin died and ever since I’ve been guided by the signal in the heavens, I’ve been guided by the birthmark on my skin(actually I do have one)........and today, today was another spring sunny Sunday, and I've got just this great feeling that I am going to see and hear Leo soon and that makes me very very happy........

Greg –
Happy Birthday! I thrilled to meet you soon.

I did some research, as I promised, on available hotels in Red Rocks area. I visited the area yesterday and here are my findings:
-Marriott Denver West (little bit pricy - $199.00 a night), about 10 miles from Red Rocks Amphitheatre and my best choice
-Holiday Inn Denver West Village, Days Inn Denver West, La Quinta Inn, Holiday Inn Express, all in the radius of about 10 miles from Red Rocks and little bit cheaper than Marriott
- any Hotel/Motel in Littleton, Golden, Lakewood you can find
- if you prefer something luxurious and don’t care about the distance: I would recommend Denver Downtown and Brown Palace Hotel
Let me know if need some more info.

I visited also the venue itself and in my next post I will share some tips about it. I have also some propsals about our meetup.

For those of you going to the Red Rocks Concert the following link might be of interest to you if you haven’t already seen it, some good pictures, maps and info.
http://www.redrocksonline.com/venue_guide.pdf
The rest of the site is also interesting.
Welcome to Red Rocks

I’m really looking forward to this event having never been to a live LC performance. I have been a fan since the mid 60s and didn’t know until joining this site in Feb that he still had such a large fan base in the US. I live in Omaha, NE. (not the most hip place in the world) but I like it. The Red Rocks concert should be something really special,
I saw Judy Collins at RR in 1970 when I was living in Denver. RR is great as long as it’s not raining, superb acoustics, everyone has a good view (but it helps sitting closer to the stage, bring binoculars if you’re not).
As for tickets, I agree that the fan presale tickets seemed to be not the best (it looks like they were all on the outer 2/3rds of the rows.) I ended up just getting tickets from the general sales at Ticketmaster and paying a premium for good seats. Go to the website above and you can see a picture of the stage from approximately where you’ll be sitting.

Best to all and see you at RR
Doug

PS good web site, thanks jarkko, sorry I didn’t find this along time ago.
