While these videos may demonstrate someone's creative impulses and inspirations, I can't really see how they have anything to do with Leonard Cohen -- presumably, he had no connection whatsoever to the making of the videos for the songs from Thanks for the Dance. I see them as "official" only insofar as they are studio-made, studio-sanctioned marketing products using Leonard's songs. I suppose if they help get Leonard's music out there, great, but they are nothing but fancy commercials.

If I'm completely honest here, these videos do nothing for me.
I'm simply just happy with Leonard's voice!

I agree with you both, Lisa and Bev.
Try watching with the sound off and see how it grabs you.
The only music videos of Leonard's songs that I watch are those featuring Leonard, and even then, I have only watched them a few times.
Concert videos, however, are a whole different thing.
Sitting down with a glass of wine, dogs on my lap and Leonard singing to me from London or Dublin is a great way to pass an evening.

I do enjoy the video for the atmosphere they have but can see why others don,t like them or do not see the connection.

I wonder what the term "official " stands for . Is this video authorised and or released by the Cohen estate? Or has someone bought the "official " rights to use the song for commercial and/or artistical purposes?

Just saw the video for "The Hills" on Instagram. Not sure if this is the official version as it has subtitles.

One error appears to be that the line ...."I can't make the hills" appears as "I can make the hills" on this video.
Quite a difference in meaning I would suggest.

In Book of Longing I have only seen "I can't make the hills"..?

The same "typo" appears in the printed lyrics in the booklet that came with the CD: it appears as "can" three times, and as "can't" once. I think it should be "can't" each time, because "can" really makes no sense in the context (even with Leonard's occasional habit of twisting things around). Perhaps somebody simply transcribed Leonard's vocals, in which he does not always sharply pronounce the "t".

I was wondering if I had misinterpreted the context and intent of the lyric(s). Perhaps one for a wider discussion?
