I was late to hear this; got it this morning.

One of the greatest honors of my life was meeting Leonard Cohen. He said, choosing his words carefully as was his custom, that I had made "the perfect use" of his lyrics, and he surprised me when he said maybe both of us would go to G-d in this life.

I hope you are right, Leonard. May G-d be merciful to you and your family. Here's to seeing you in the hereafter. I am unable to thank you fully for your honest, poetic works, but I will never stop thinking of you, never stop loving you.

Such a loss - quiet loving voice will speak no more in these times of clamour and hatred - but his work is eternal:

I think Cohen was in a bad place when he wrote Last Year’s Man. Perhaps he thought he was last year’s man, past his peak, a “has been”. But Cohen is very much this year’s man and next years, In fact, like Blake’s, I believe his work will stand the test of time, will take its place in Blake’s “Great Eternity”, where all things are translucent and shine with an inner light.

I'm terribly sad but also so grateful. His songs have been the touchstones and guideposts through my life. It is comforting to know that will continue. Thank you.

RIP Leonard, we will never forget!

A story; the death of a ladies man

This is for you Jika
My teacher, it is to you I turn
It is my full heart
Wasn’t hard to love you
It ain’t no cure for that love
You got me singing

He was some kind of Gypsy boy
He brought us comfort
and brought us his songs
songs to make us still
like a drunk in a midnight choir
He was born with the gift of a golden voice
Like a blessing come from heaven
His voice is still now, It’s His will
He will speak no more
Hineni, hineni

A singer must die, it’s time to go
You knew your days were few
Death is old, but is always new
You had to die a lot
You are out of the game
You are now between the stars, large against the sky
Party’s over, but you landet on your feet
you will be speaking to us sweetly
from your window
We cannot follow you yet
It’s au revoir
Fare the well ….
A thousand kisses…
A million candles burning
Ring the bells that still can ring
Halleluja, Amen

Thank you Leonard for being there, since I was seventeen years old.
Thank you for being you, thank you for all the beautiful gifts.
Thank you Leonard, I feel deeply sad 'that you have left the table, that you are out of the game'.
I didn´t kill myself when things went wrong
I didn´t turn to drugs or teaching
I tried to sleep, but when I couldn´t sleep
I learned to write.
I learned to write what might be read
on nights like this by one like me.

There's a concert hall in Vienna
Where your mouth had a thousand reviews
There's a bar where the boys have stopped talking
They've been sentenced to death by the blues

Say a prayer for the cowboy
His mare's run away
And he'll walk til he finds her
His darling, his stray
but the river's in flood
and the roads are awash
and the bridges break up
in the panic of loss.
Bye, Leonard!

If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn,
they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem.

Life would be poor without your songs, thanks for all these feelings.
