This is a very sad news for the whole Cohen community - both here in Poland and all over the world. We have just learned that Maciej (Maciek) Zembaty has died today at the age of 67. He in fact introduced Cohen to Polish fans.
RIP

Those who attended Krakow meeting last year were able to meet him during the concert.

Last entry on the blog by Maciej Zembaty in the face of today's news is shocking for me. On 15 June 2011 (after a long silence) last entry titled "reactivation" and reads as follows:

"po długim śnie zimowym, Artysta, poczuwszy wolę bożą ( w kuluarach nazywaną weną) zawiadamia, ze w krótkim czasie, ku chwale Ojczyzny - z martwych powstanie…
czerwiec 15th, 2011"

after the long winter sleep, Artist, having felt the God`s will (with unofficially named creative inspiration), he is notifying that in the short time, to the glory of the Homeland, will rise from the dead...

His Polish translations of LC poems were ingenious, his covers were often very different from originals, he brought Leonard Cohen into the pop culture in Poland in the beginning of '80.
He made me curious of the English texts enough to spend hours trying to decipher them, later when I moved to California I took with me among most prized possessions a box of tapes with his covers.

A couple of his last performances:
"Passing through" and "Bird on the wire", open air concert recorded June 2010, great performance:

"Dance me to the end of love" by Maciej Zembaty and friends, recorded in 2008, with a surprising twist at the end:

This news is so sad, and moreover, he has died at quite a relatively young age. :( I'm just so glad I saw him perform at the Krakow LC Event last year - that was a real privilege.

My condolences to his family and friends and the Polish people who loved him.

Hi Dave, is it possibke to cut Torrent file into separate songs and post on YouTube ? could you do it if it is ?

The show published on Dime is the historical one that introduced Leonard to the "masses" in Poland.
It was shown on public TV, and it was so different from anything pumped by the official propaganda at that time that it seemed like a broadcast from a different planet. Apparently human beings retain basic human instincts even when undergoing massive brain washing though, as the songs (also played later on the public radio) attracted huge following in Poland, so that LC's 1985 concerts in Warsaw and other Polish cities were played to the audience well familiar with his repertoir.

Hi Mirka,
I'll try this weekend, but no guarantees. However if you pm me with an address to which I can send a complete copy of the downloaded show, I would be happy to do that.
Hope life is good

Hello everybody,
All the songs used in this fabled 1978 TV production "Piesni milosci i nienawisci" were recorded on 28 May 1978. The poems recited by the late great Roman Wilhelmi were recorded on 28 and 29 May 1979.
It seems to be an error. Wilhelmi's recitation couldn't be recorded a year after the recording of the show.
