Leonard writes to the Forum members

Post by jarkko » Thu Sep 23, 2004 8:25 am

Leonard left Los Angeles long before his birthday and has been
traveling. The following messages have been already received,
and he promised to write more later.

"Dear Jarkko,
I have just visited the Forum.
So many beautiful voices.
Thank you for letting me hear them.
Love
Leo"

He received also our birthday gift before his Birthday to his
present location:

"The package arrived this morning
deeply touched by the thoughtfulness, simplicity, and
elegance of these gifts
all the names
such a sense of solidarity
thank you
Leo"

Leonard's replies

I've worked in the music business and believe it when I say that many, many performers would not be as well...gracious as Leonard certainly seems to be. I think it is thoughtful of him to acknowledge the obvious influence he has had on our emotions. I guess that is one facet of his personality and one reason we all seem to love him so much.

Linda, it might be true what u're saying. 8)
Same time- it works both ways. If the performers don't care much about the people-fans, the people don't care much about them either- whether they live or die or whatever.
not to mention birthday

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Linda. Many seem to consider the fans to be somehow less than real people; an aspect of their career, moreso than their being an aspect of their followers' lives; and the difference shows. Leonard's gratitude, graciousness, and awareness manifest in many ways.

These messages are simply spoken and clearly from the heart, both in Leonard's way.

Whatever chuffed means, I am it too!

The stamp is elegant, as was the gift, and is the man.

And Jarkko, well, we would be voiceless without him, wouldn't we?

Thank you, Jarkko!

And exactly what does "chuffed" :? mean, Paula? It's so similar to "huff" and our "huffy" that I have to wonder. I'm sure it's not similar in meaning.

It means pleased as punch (whoever Punch is)

I assume huff and huffy mean the same over here - in a bad mood?

Oh good, thanks! Punch is Judy's boyfriend  .

Well ~ Huff and Huffy is more like a bad mood with arrogance, often following feeling offended. [Enough f's for you there? ]

Punch and Judy were a puppet show that was "serialized" on the streets of London for many years in the pre-radio days. As I remember, they were rather violent, and low-brow. One of the original street theatres!

Ahhh, that word's etymology occurred like "kleenex" and "xerox" did.

Last year there was a Punch and Judy show in the thread of Leonard Cohen's message regarging the members of this forum wishing him H.B. It was more a Judy and Judy show however. Nice improvement to only evoke the puppets this year.

A crowd is nobody in particular. So I agree, it takes an effort to see the parts of the whole, to think about a sole individual which is unique and is also a reality. He did both. Great.

That is so sweet.
Many performers wouldn't do that and I can only think of one other who I know for a fact has done that, Paul Williams. Still, that is is pretty cool.
I loved you for your beauty that doesn't make a fool of me,
