H Diane, what does "vest" refer to in the UK? I am guessing it is an undergarment.

Hi Friscogirl,

Yes, what we call a vest, you call an undershirt, (we call most thin sleeveless tops, 'vests', except for waistcoats!).

Divided by a common language, eh?
The waistcoat is one of the few pieces of clothing whose origin historians can date precisely. King Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland introduced the waistcoat as a part of correct dress during the Restoration of the British monarchy. Samuel Pepys, the diarist and civil servant, wrote in October 1666 that "the King hath yesterday in council declared his resolution of setting a fashion for clothes which he will never alter. It will be a vest, I know not well how". This royal decree provided the first mention of the waistcoat. Pepys records "vest" as the original term; the word "waistcoat" derives from the cutting of the coat at waist-level, since at the time of the coining, tailors cut men's formal coats well below the waist (see frock coat or morning coat).
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waistcoat)

So maybe 'vest', in its yet-to-be-established 'waistcoat' meaning, was one of those old words, like 'gotten', that travelled across the Atlantic with the American settlers in the 17th century and got fossilised. That is very interesting if so.

I hope Leonard will soon announce a Tour for you in the US, as we are being spoilt over here right now.

Hi Diane, Thanks for the information about the waistcoat/vest distinction. It is interesting how the older term vest did make it's way over here and not waistcoat. Also thanks for your kind words in reference to Leonard eventually coming to the U.S. When I saw the Fall schedule I responded on the forum in my most mature manner "why does Europe get to have all the fun"? To which Jarkko replied "Maybe it is because of the forty years of loyalty we have shown him". Point well taken.

Just saw those two great pictures you linked to, Born With.

This was part of the stage surround, even though he didn't sing it!:

Hi Diane, that's an interesting piece. I imagine that was just a part of the stage surround. Where there other song lyrics displayed and where they from songs by the various other artists? Plus I think Avalanche would be a nice addition to the set list. It would sound great with his voice now.

Hi there Frisco, yes is the answer to both your questions. Here is a wider view. I have no idea what the other songs are though. As you can see the other lyrics should be grateful to be in such esteemed company. Yes I wouldn't mind Avalanche being added to the setlist (you can mentally hear him singing it in his deepened tones of today, can't you), or any other song from SOLAH. He's done FBR (I haven't heard it though), I'd especially love to hear Last Year's Man or Sing Another Song Boys.

This video has just surfaced from 2 years ago. Interesting, very close-up camera angle on Leonard/Javier and they are having a lot of fun. LC even incorporates his "thank you Javier" into the melody of the song. (2:55 or so)
ooooh, the smiles... :D :D :D

Thanks Esther! Just noticed your add and loved the video! "indienauta" HAS to be female! lol...only one brief shot of Sharon! Amazing camera angle, as in the closeups she was able to frame Leonard, Javier, Roscoe and Neil perfectly! Even got a bit of Dino! The smiles are delightful and infectious!!!

As a side note, I find it interesting and so indicative of the compelling nature of Leonard's music, words, personality, and humanity, that fans are still posting and adding thoughts and videos to concerts that took place over 2 years ago!! Wow.

Great catch, Esther. A superb video. The crowd was wildly enthusisastic and it was welcomed by LC and the band who smiled continually. And as Diana mentioned, shot from a very different angle. I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks for posting it.
