Tribute
By Terry-Lynn Johnson

The gentleman wraps his coat
over his frame, and
the wind whistles as he sits
on the bench across from his home.

He ruminates that the ways
of the world do not appeal
to goodness or finer senses.

And in solitude, he searches,
as the sleet and the rain
weight the bedding
for the frozen season.

The pair of crows caw before
shadow of flight.

His echoing resonance
in lyric and song
Is prophetic brokenness
of times.

And carried in the wind
is the hallowed refrain.
Hallelujah.
