Joan Baez covered the title track in her recent CD (and reputedly her final album) and I downloaded the Mary Chapin Carpenter album ....

Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Things we are Made Of
Re: Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Things we are Made Of
Hello Kush,
Thanks for those Mary Chapin Carpenter links. I have got a number of her CDs from the 1990s but haven't got round to listening to them for a while. I got the impression that she seemed to have a lower profile in the early part of this century. I have not seen her in a live concert yet.
I have always felt that there is a fragility and sensitivity about her which comes out in the humanity, compassion and awareness of her lyrics. Having listened to the tracks you mentioned I realise that this quality is still evident.

'Fragility' and 'sensitivity' are accurate descriptions of her music. I don't believe I had heard any of her music until I listened to Joan Baez cover of The Things we are Made of. The lyrics to Hand on my Back is Cohenesque in some ways.
