you wait ages for a cohen meetup to come along then two turn up at the same time…while ute and friends were up in kassel for the denis fischer leonard cohen gig and meet up i made my way to wetzlar again for henning’s 5th. tower of song festival…… (take note leonard in which part of the world your most loyal fans gather for regular meet-ups before you decide on your next ‘final concert’)

henning as usual had assembled a wonderful array of artists for this his 5th. tower of song festival which this year paid tribute to johnny cash

friday…..opening the evening we had zue rewolution a very promising and talented young female guitarist/singer with a touch of punk and blues who gave us her own take on johnny cash…next up were the duo wuthe and faust two very accomplished musicians with the sweetest vocal harmonies this side of the the everly brothers….finishing off the evening were dortmund based gringos fate an americana /alternative country group who claim to be able to copy any artist or musical style…and to prove it they almost had me believing that johnny cash was alive and well and playing again in wetzlar last friday night

on saturday henning organised a walk from haiger to dillenburg and waiting for us at the end of the walk was what has now become the traditional bowl of homemade soup…

…for the evening henning took us to the szenario club in marburg for the launch party for local artist lisa-marie fischer’s new cd ….i think henning may have asked her to sing dylan’s ‘boots of spanish leather’ especially for the strange englisch mann ….well even if he didn’t ask she still sang it for me…

and finally on sunday after a hearty breakfast it was a trip up to driedorf for a bit of football to watch steinbach’s first and second teams play…
big thank you to henning and elke the perfect hosts…and of course to wijbe, dolores, kirsten, christoph and suzanne and everybody else for another wonderful weekend

btw..if leonard cohen can commemorate maarten massa by planting a tree in his honour then why shouldn’t the rest of us also commemorate our favourite forum member is some way?…..which is exactly what i did in the beautiful university town of marburg on saturday......thanks to henning for the paint and brushes and wijbe for letting me sit on your shoulders.. ...

Great read Ken, and Wybe, those photos are amazing... it looks like something from a fairytale... what a place to live!

I am surprised we dont have a pile of comments as this thread is sitting so neatly about the Wales thread now... Keep the photos coming , if there are any more

I suppose it was always going to happen one day . A young pretender of a thread new and vibrant with plenty to say toppling the undisputed champion of threads .
But I am sure the welsh thread will not go down without a fight or is it time to accept the inevitable and salute a new champion . Only the people can decide !

If you go to the previous tower of song thread, it stretches to 2 pages so I think this thread is not a threat. Well there were only about 5 forum members at it I think .

I think the only way that the Wales thread will be surpassed is if there is another weekend with all the people that went to Wales :) :) but I do not intend to let the Wales thread die before it reaches 100 pages
