Came So Far For Beauty, Brighton 2004

Post by ForYourSmile »

These are what I consider “international tributes” with the most famous participants:

Came So Far For Beauty, Brooklyn's Prospect Park New York, June 28, 2003, presented by the Canadian Consulate General, New York.
Produced by Hal Willner with the family Wainwright - McGarrigle (Rufus, Martha, Kate and Anna), Linda and Teddy Thompson, Nick Cave, Perla Batalla, Julie Christensen, The Handsome Family and Laurie Anderson.

Came So Far For Beauty, Brighton Festival, May 22, 23 2004.
Produced by Hal Willner with the family Wainwright - McGarrigle (Rufus, Martha, Kate and Anna), Linda and Teddy Thompson, Nick Cave, Perla Batalla, Julie Christensen, The Handsome Family, Laurie Anderson, Jarvis Cocker…

Came So Far For Beauty, at The Sydney Opera House, January 28, 30. 2005.
Produced by Hal Willner with the family Wainwright - McGarrigle (Rufus, Martha, Kate and Anna), Linda and Teddy Thompson, Nick Cave, Perla Batalla, Julie Christensen, The Handsome Family, Antony, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker…

Acordes con Leonard Cohen, Sant Feliu de Guixols and Lorca, July 20, 22 2006.
Produced by Alberto Manzano with Jackson Browne, John Cale, Anjani Thomas, Perla Batalla, Javier Mas, Christina Rosenvinge, Toti Soler, Enrique Morente…

Came So Far For Beauty at The Point Theatre, Dublin, 4 and 5 October 2006.
Produced by Hal Willne, with Teddy & Kami Thompson, Nick Cave, Perla Batalla, Julie Christensen, The Handsome Family, Antony, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson…

Acordes con Leonard Cohen, Auditori de Sant Cugat (Barcelona) January 13, 2007.
Produced by Alberto Manzano with Jackson Browne, John Cale, Anjani Thomas, Adam Cohen, Elliott Murphy, Perla Batalla, Javier Mas, Christina Rosenvinge, Toti Soler, Aute, Gerard Quintana, Constantino Romero…

Six meetings, four produced by Hal Willner and two by Alberto Manzano. Always with a common link: our dear Perla Batalla. She was in the New York Event 2004 tribute with Julie Christensen http://molistoni.cat/lc/04nyevent.htm and now with In The House of Cohen. Few things thrill me as deeply as Julie and Perla singing Anthem.

Something different but very important was the posthumous tribute Tower of Song in Montreal, November 6, 2017 with Sting, k.d. lang, Elvis Costello, Sharon Robinson, Adam Cohen, The Webb Sisters...

The concerts from October 2004 to May 2008 (in Fredericton when Cohen showed us his state of form and strength) I felt them as meetings of admirers, friends and family who wish to demonstrate their support to the dear poet.

For collectors these tributes are sources of great covers, but we only have official recordings of Syndey 2005 (by Lian Lunson: I’m Your Man DVD & CD very partial) and Sant Cugat 2007 (DVD & CD almost complete). I have tried to extract the maximum from videos and audience recordings. This stuff is not valid for Jarkko's awesome collection, in which just it is allowed official recordings and Cohen’s compositions, in mine I accept The Partisan or anything I like, or maybe I don't like it so much but I'm interested.

I do not remember how I got one recording from audience in MP3 and 128kbps, something absolutely non-commercial, just for some kind of fans. I guess it came around 2006, at a time we shared things by post mail thanks to this forum, I remember that time as very dearly. Now I have no more information, I don't know who to thank for the recording and diffusion.

First I thought it was from the Sydney 2005 concert, but I realized that the If It be Your Will of my MP3 was not Antony, at all, plus other important details.
Then I thought of Brooklyn 2003. The setlists really are very similar, but the songs in MP3 still did not match the information from Brooklyn 2003 that I found in Leonard Cohen Files https://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/ always the best information with two reviews one by Dick Straub
Other by Thelma Blitz
And one topic in the forum
More, according the reviews, Perla Batalla invites Esther Cohen in Anthem to sing and I couldn't hear that.
I finally discovered that there was another meeting: Brighton 2004
https://www.leonardcohenforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2289
https://www.leonardcohenforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1943
blog.thoughtcat
That fits with the MP3 files.

In addition to thanking any comments, I wonder if anyone has the audience recordings of Brooklyn 2003 and Sydney 2005. We could change things.
Thank you,

I'm reviewing my cover collection these days. I see that there is another significant tribute:

Chapeau Mr. Cohen: Un Hommage a Leonard Cohen, Festival International de Jazz Montreal, 26 June 2008 - Place des Arts de Montréal with Adam Cohen, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Madeleine Peyroux, Chris Botti and more.

Alberto Manzano organized Acordes con Leonard Cohen (aka Acording with) as small tours:
20 July 2006 Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona), 44 Porta Ferrada Festival.
22 July 2006 Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz).
23 July 2006 Lorca (Murcia).
24 July 2006 Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

12 January 2007 Pavelló Municipal de Hostalets de Balanyà (Barcelona) as Catalunya canta a Cohen.
13 January 2007 Sant Cugat (Barcelona) Barna Sants as Acords amb Leonard Cohen.
14 January 2007 Auditori Enric Granados de Lleida as Catalunya canta a Cohen.
