The Crucial Similarity between Myself and Geoffrey

Post by solongleonard »

Geoffrey routinely calls his great works "sketches", or the like
and then describes them as little, small, poor, or (one of his great favourites) "rushed".

I go to a different school.
I brag how quickly I write.

I know it's true and all I am doing is trying to win an imaginary speed contest with anyone else who doesn't write.

Geoffrey's spiel is a great big act. It might be endearing but I am not sure.

What a relief if he ever introduced a piece by saying he was very happy with it, or the like.

I wish we had an approval button for his drawings, Press for, "The Approval", or depress for "The Like".

I have a book in me. Can you imagine how uncomfortable that feels? I want to turn over a new page but I'm not a doctor. Meanwhile, back here on Earth, I won't make the effort. Because I am not Joseph Heller (dead) nor Bernard Malamud (dead). I am not stupid, I can see a pattern emerging.

What a con-trick. Neither were saved by their genius. There is a real danger that if I complete my book, I too could, one day, die.

Meticulously Timed, I present a piece I just wrote in 22 minutes, (22 minutes, 43 seconds). During this time Barnet could have conceded 5 goals and Geoffrey could have drawn 8 sketches, and only 9 of them would be of Leonard Cohen.

I can not be bothered to spend more time on my Pome,
1 because I don't care and
Won because I came first in the important Memorial Speed Doggerel and Catfish Contest

The prize is a sketch of me and Leonard Cohen at dinner. I just don't know anyone who can draw that.

"Outer beauty is ultimately ephemeral"
He said in the practiced tone of a so reasonable, so pompous, git
Fooling no-one, (he didn’t get it)
not himself, (the one who didn’t want to split)
nor her, who split his heart (into a million whingy bits).

He has photographic proof
that she blossomed in his company
and in the Designer Rags he gave her,
and the long memories engraved there
(on his heart, not the damn gear).

Please don’t be silly.
He wouldn’t mess with costumes,
which she had already collected,(dining together over, she thought they were take-away)

On the way out (of his house, and Life),
(shhh, let’s call it “life” now)
No u, no Upper Cases any more,
Except for her last clothes in the Luis Vuitton trolly, for her
(and his last meal with Gluey Wanton for him).

Nothing in common
Not a fucking thing.
He was an hilarious clown – who secretly specialised in secretly being down

She left with garments
and he was left with remnants
he had acted like a designer
but She stole the show and acted like a give-up resigner
from their "Eternity Together Plan".
"Man Up" and be a Man
Goodbye Useless, Stupid", (She said) "you’re joking, ain'tcha?" (he wanted to reply)
and why, and why and why?

Outer beauty means nothing to me and that is the explanation for the lack of poetry devoted to the subject

I shall quickly post just to say, Good Work, Mike, well done, only 22 minutes and 43 seconds to write such a clever, witty, and thought-provoking thingy, I mean, wow, you are quite the cracker-jack, that's for sure!

(This post is meant to pre-empt the otherwise inevitable post by solong in a different thread pouting about how nobody noticed his clever and witty post in this thread!)

ditto. splendid work, michael - this is a literary area in which you excel! :-)

to clarify. there is almost always a feeling of happiness when a picture is produced, but a short-lived emotion. as time passes, mostly due to an ego evaporating 'auratransformation' and the norwegian 'janteloven', i manage to rein in all thoughts of pride or self importance and confront brutal reality. leonard once spoke for many of us when he said: "if there were no paintings in the world, mine would be very important"; he was a good role model, a person from whom we all can learn.

my pictures are indeed rushed, michael - at least the part of actual materialisation. remember, however, that one needs to first capture an idea - the most time consuming part of any creative process.

i am flattered that you take such an interest in my person, but be careful not to allow it to slide from a healthy fascination into chronic pathological obsessive-compulsion.

Perhaps more later but I’ve just taken on a case of a wronged Portrait Artist. I will send you a link privately. I share now how interesting the Law of Jante is. David has never mentioned this to me, the errant son. I’m impressed that Axel Rose took time off from leading Guns and Roses to set you a brilliantly unEnglish way to be socially.

I apologise for being so ratty recently. Others here also deserve the same apology pro ratsy to my culpability.

I have had friendship today, I have had a good breakfast, yet for some reason, I feel pre-empty now.

All of Lisa's horses and all the Klein'smen
Couldn't put Hempty together again

Couldn't put Pre-Hempty together again
Hempty Dempty…

hmmm, this could lead to Trumpism from some of my words. Me Apologise again!!

Incidentally, to me, the crucial similarity between solongleonard and Geoffrey is that they are the main reasons why I come around here as often as I do. Their posts, be it pictures or words or combinations thereof, often actually brighten my days, with their wit, charm, intelligence, cleverness, talent, etc..

Of course, occasionally they annoy me -- especially Geoffrey, but he can't help it; and solong's poor taste in music can be tiresome -- but otherwise, I rather enjoy their presence. ;-)

my reaction is on the music. I guess I am not that cool there! However, No one will take my Johnny Dowd away.

Leonard Cohen never wrote a song with a title as great as "That's Your Wife on The Back of my Horse". Envy drove Leonard to despair, (it was actually his unusual name that won Envy the job as Cohen's chauffeur). Then Cohen took to drink, drugs, and finally, shortly before someone else's death, Adultery. Still to yet another different person's Dying Day, Cohen couldn't match Johnny's guitar playing, his voice, or his hair.

Would it be helpful? I don't think it would. I was partially joking, anyway! ;-)

Oh, and welcome back!

thank you for welcoming me back again, lisa - a very appreciated and hospitable remark to make :-)

i realised that there was partial humour in your message, but the remaining part was what stimulated interest. "would it be helpful?" well, to me, perhaps. a person being made aware of their shortcomings is the recipient of valuable information into two personalities: primarily their own, but also that of the person offering the criticism.

i am not one to press another person, and respect one's reluctance in allowing a greater psychological assessment of their character. therefore, if it causes discomfort, let us continue our lighthearted banter and not dwell further on this matter.

You have provided one answer to your original query:
