ALICE AND ROSIE
Rosie loved me for a whole summer-
we had borrowed someone else's cottage
by someone else's lake
each day we sat silently
at the edge of our relationship
when we looked down,
innocent water seemed to say
that we were perpetual
when we looked up
a blameless horizon told us
there was no limit to our love
but Nature doesn't always know best
and our love ended with the summer
----------------------------------------------------------
Alice, a lake is just a lake
it's water not magic,
and the sky is there for everyone
Monday lovers and Friday friends alike
I shared all with you that week
except your plans for our future
and now I must softly share
that only you
will ever write poems about that summer

I remember this one Michael! (how are you?)
I love the call response of these two as they remember a nice moment shared before continuing their own paths.
Whether a sky is blameless and endless, or if the sky is just light refracting from tiny bits of air, it is still appears blue on a sunny day.

Hi, Im fine thanks. seems like ages since we spoke. Hope you had a nice day. here it was a Public Holiday. I expect you have had a day of relentless work without any fun break at all.Cate wrote:I remember this one Michael! (how are you?)

oh sure, rub it in.mickey_one wrote:here it was a Public Holiday
It was really nice here today so I found myself pleasantly distracted from work but still got a fair amount done.
Our long weekend will be in a couple of weeks in honour of Leonard Cohens song “Queen Victoria” it’s not such a great holiday though. We basically just drink beer while wearing uncomfortable corsets and set off fireworks. (luckily trips to the emergency room are free)

For me, these two lines above, juxtaposed against that ever-present "lake" make wonderful poetry, Mickey.each day we sat silently
at the edge of our relationship
(particularly for a belly-button-gazer like me)

Have had those moments that Mat selected. So intricately, yet diffusely, described.
Great points, Cate. And would love to see the corset drinking lol.
Love the two poems and their connection.
Love this side of you, Michael... which I too rarely see.

Michael is full of shit, just like his lake

Well, I'm not disagreeing with you there, fishfish.
And at least you can clean the lake.
