Re: Say a prayer for the Cowboy....Ballad of the absent Mare

hi Lizzy, yes, he did seem "invincible"...but there you go... Jennifer Warne, as you probably know, was instrumental in re-energising Leonard's career by releasing an album of Leonard's songs. That is why the post above written by her is so interesting. She knew him well for a long time......

Re: Say a prayer for the Cowboy....Ballad of the absent Mare

Jarkko posted this Jennifer Warnes "saunter" many Moons ago. After being away on a silent retreat, Leonard Cohen came over to my house wearing an old beige MacGregor jacket, and his face was radiant. There was a little leap inside him. It's impossible to be sad around Leonard when he is fi...

Re: Ballad of the absent Mare

... and below are the words of the song. Ballad of the Absent Mare (Leonard Cohen) Say a prayer for the cowboy His mare's run away And he'll walk til he finds her, His darling, his stray But the river's in flood And the roads are awash And the bridges break up In the panic of loss. And there's nothi...

Re: Ballad of the absent Mare

Hi Anne,
Why don't you lead the way with your take on things, regarding this poem/song.
If you could summarise, that would be great.
No pressure, only if you enjoy that verbal saunter!
I am not quite ready... :)

Ballad of the absent Mare

...she steps on the Moon as she paws at the sky... I'm going to take a fresh look at this haunting song; and as Thoreau would say, "saunter" awhile. "to saunter" according to Thoreau, is to walk the "sacred ground"...saint-terra or santa-terra... and it seems to me tha...

Re: rusty old and beautiful

Here is the link that delivers the song!
...a Leonardean-Warnean spiritual canticle...
...or simply two free-spirited souls, on the edge of being...

This one is for you and your "old Brumby", B4. :)

Re: influences on leonard?

Cohen's Lucky Night is a translation of San Juan de la Cruz' poem, Dark Night (of the soul). (San Juan is also known as Saint John of the Cross ) Interestingly... San Juan had Jewish grandparents who were forced to convert to Catholicism at pain of death during the Spanish Inquisition and I suggest ...

Re: You know who I am (Songs From A Room)

Hi David, I'll need to mull that around in my head for awhile. I am not familiar with the Kabbalah; I have merely heard others mention its wisdom. I would suggest, though, that what I see in Leonard's song above is similar to what you see. That is, god changing "position", as Leonard terms...

Yes, we are locking down, popping corks, distancing as much as we can...and dawdling through old Leonard Cohen posts, thoughts and music...it's better than bullets and bombs, that's for sure.
Keep well if you can.
If not, then good luck! Xxx

Yes, we are "imperfect beings" Cate... ...but your response is perfect. (forgiveness, acceptance, mercy, non judgement on a certain level ...there is another "position" for a "Me Too" movement. ;-) With your attitude, Cate, I would guess you are now preparing for the Fr...

I'm still here wherever that is... ;-) I'm mulling around these "Darker" lines of Leonard; ...and please don't make me go there though there be a god or not... (so hope-less- melancholy, so mortal) ...they whisper still, the ancient stones the blunted mountains weep... (so hope-full-immort...
