Re: Upcoming NYC Events

Hi Dick,
I am coming to NYC in January so will be watching this thread for news. Would be wonderful if I could see Perla and Bob Metzger perform while there.

Re: Did I Ever Love You - "major misstep"?!

I love this song but I also think it's very sad, like he's singing to someone who has died.

I had the thought it might be for Roshi, something about leaning across the old table and the almond tree, spiritually symbolic, has withered.

But what Helen says also makes sense to me.

Re: Popular Problems cd

In Australia the CD wasn't available until the 26th September (other places seem to have been a week or more earlier which I don't understand) and iTunes.aus synchronised with that date too so the streaming helped me wait too. 8) I bought the CD at our local JB HiFi (not a place I like going to, ful...

Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

Thank you Steven for starting this topic, it's a big one, but I know from BOM discussions that you will have given it much thought. Helen, I thought of the Philistine king but ... would he be kind? Holydove, another layer of meaning I am unfamiliar with just makes me appreciate this song more. To pu...

Re: Popular Problems - Second Impressions

I've had a similar journey, I immediately loved the words and the tunes and LC's voice but needed a few listens to get used to the production. 'Did I ever love you' is the most haunting song for me too, it's in my head all the time (unless 'The Street' is, but not as persistently). It's the urgency ...

Re: RIP Toowoomba Cohen Event

Andrew, vale Toowoomba from me too. I think it says a lot for what you achieved that it continued after you migrated south! I will not forget the 2007 event, Henning was so ... Henning and Anne soldiered on despite having a dreadful cold yet still sounded wonderful (bought her cd). Like Bev, I will ...

Re: New Books 2014

T, I should perhaps use more words :D and then I would preface my post above by saying how wonderful it is to have such a choice in books about Leonard Cohen, because I am so happy for him that he is getting the attention from fans, journalists and writers of all kinds that he undeniably deserves. I...

Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

Yes T, I heard "sun" initially and I think the song can accommodate either (Son or sun).

It's been said before that analysis (in this case officially sanctioned lyrics) can detract from, rather than add to the experience of the art.

But your use of the word hologram is confusing me ...

Ok, this is why I love the live streaming, we have to wait for another week for the CD release, so much for the global market.

Re: New Books 2014

I am feeling a tad overwhelmed by the number of books now or soon available about Cohen. I have been disappointed in the past when buying a book that sounded promising so I am giving this some (maybe too much) thought. I don't want amateur photos of him doing laundry (or polishing his shoes!). Leona...

Re: Leonard Cohen: A beginner's guide to the Master of Eroti

Enjoyed this article, particularly the comments on DOLM, which often gets ignored in reviews of LC's work. My only disagreement would be about Ten New Songs, no cobwebs on it IMO.

Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

Having now read the lyrics posted by Jarkko I stand corrected again! There is mention of 'the Son' in 'Solomon etc ' so you may be right Peter.
