Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

I was at Drumcliffe today and the single signature with no jes cohen underneath is still in the book. My children were pointing out that Bono, Barack O' Bama and even Yeats have signed the book! Leonard should have just eaten the chocolate cake in the coffee shop and and moved on. It's nice to see s...

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

I remember reading that Leonard's grandson had visited Drumcliffe along with him- does anyone know his name?

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

It's a lovely idea but i dread to think of the cost of getting a complex design like the unified heart engaved.Sometimes it's easier to get it done on metal and attached on to the plaque but it gives a very municipal sort of feel. Simplicity is always the answer with these things, sublime would be m...

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

Great to see the signature- thank you to those who photographed it. I share your concerns but appreciate that he signed his name along with everyone else and I'm assuming wasn't treated differently to anyone else. It's a fully functioning Church of Ireland with the unusual advantage of having a famo...

Re: The Human Need for Time and Space

Beautiful thought provoking article, Fauxmantic's flickr photos have certainly reminded me of the loneliness and sheer grind of these trips, especially the ones showing him with his feet in a whole variety of hotel sinks. I've visited Sligo on several occasions recently and i dearly hope that those ...

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

I was in Sligo yesterday and there's quite a sense of excitement. The staff in Garavogue are expecting up to 500 and everyone's hoping for good weather.I love the posters asking for good will ambassadors over the weekend and stating that Leonard will cast a cold eye on Sligo. Lissadell itself is fai...

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

A guide to the shops in Sligo would be helpful and they do have some lovely and very individual shops- with the best shoe shop I've been in for a long time.It would be great to highlight some of the businesses especially at such a difficult time for them. Do we know if there's any disabled parking a...

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.

The Garavogue is a beautiful place, also quite busy and noisy with a lot of tv's and screens. The library suggestion for visitors etc is a good idea if people want to meet up with old friends etc.Hopefully we'll be using the outdoor area- food was great and ranged from soup at 4 euros
