Dear Lizzy Thanks for your continuing interest. I'm flattered by your kind comments on my earlier post but realise my limited talent with words and music pales besides Leonard's: Otherwise, I'd have skipped the "open letter" and contributed to the proposed McComb tribute record myself :D I'm afraid ...

David McComb & The Triffids

Anyone who read this post: http://www.leonardcohenforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4029 and, perhaps unsurprisingly, questioned my sanity and wondered who the f**k I was talking about can now find an answer to the second issue relatively easily. David McComb was a big fan of Leonard Cohen (he treasured a t...

Thanks John. I'm not so sure about the likely outcomes of these two cases - no one is of course. I'm no expert in US law. All I can say is from my admittedly limited knowledge of the basic facts underlying the allegations made by Agile against Cohen, I strongly suspect they'd be laughed out of court...

The judge simply determined that the clause does not apply. Simply ? That is a very big simply. That was a big defeat for Leonard any way you look at it. YdF Not really. Having said that, the determination of this purely procedural point on trial venue seems to have had only one potential outcome a...

Happy Birthday Leonard. I hope the year ahead is as discomfort free as life allows, and one filled with good friends and positive experiences. If I don't see you on stage, I look forward to hearing you on record. If I don't hear from you on record, I look forward to reading your writing. Na zdrovia!...

I'd like to intercede in this tawdry, sordid and sad affair (not Cohen's case but the debate on this forum about it) as someone who operates in the legal world: though in the parent jurisdiction from which the common law system adopted in the US derives - and, if I may make so bold, practising in a ...

Dear Lizzie (I've been spelling it 'Lizzy' all this time - you know that  ). Just wanted to say have a wonderful trip! Don't forget the "Mary Quant" dresses of yore. On Carnaby Street. Maybe it's not the same street you mentioned once, but if I went to London, I'd go there just to see it. Dea...

Poor Anjani singing her heart out and Leonard pretending to be so attentive...and all the time he's got those two giggling bimbos on the side. Pathetic. YdF I'm not sure whether this was intended as a criticism, but you've certainly driven a nail into the male head there, Dr Freud. I'll hold my han...

Dear Beth Your childhood notions are realised, Queen Lizzie. And, if our brief correspondence is anything to go by, a reign not without enlightenment. And no, I didn't come all this way to fool around in any sense of the word, although I am willing to seem foolish and play the fool if that's what it...

Dear Lizzie If the CD comes to pass, it'll be money well spent even if Leonard's contribution is a silent one. The "I'm Your Fan" contribution was not David McComb's only Cohen cover. In his post-Triffids outfit, the Blackeyed Susans, he also recorded a version of "Memories" which is memorable, part...

Dear Elizabeth (it's a lovely name Elizabeth and so is Lizzie - whichever way you spell it) I have been around here longer than you might think from my post count, although my visits to Jarkko's extraordinarily useful frontpage have been more frequent. I've certainly got enough of a feel for the pla...

An Open Letter To LC

Dear Leonard Please pass by me again With your cap in your hand And your tomes Bound in black leather They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Well, I’ve given it my best shot. I know better than to attempt anything over four lines. I’m embarrassed by that much, and, since pre-sentim...

John was a pioneer who pushed forward the frontiers of popular music. He was loved by millions who never knew him for being such an unassuming and unblemished personality despite years in public life. What better tribute or greater reward from life can there be than that?

Leonard

Like a fine wine, you have become better with age (and after a few years stored out of the way in the dark!). I look forward to the work yet to come.

Happy birthday.

And thanks for the songs, Mr Cohen.
