Discussing "The Fool" and similar things

This thread is meant for discussions, comments, questions-and-answers, differing points of view, and other such things that needn't clutter up more specifically dedicated threads. It is not exclusively meant for "The Fool", but also for more or less related topics. Please understand that at present ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Its4inthemorning, let me reassure you: we are not exactly off-topic here. We are (secretly, I must admit) discussing the meaning of well I am the one who loves changing from nothing to one. (You Know Who I Am) The "loves changing from..." implies: at least several times. Maybe not regularly — but ce...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Thanks for your appreciation! But in fact the merit is Vickie's: She asks when I express myself too incomprehensibly. A rare thing, and much appreciated — it's difficult to perceive one's own inadequacies. Thank you, Vickie. ... there are those moments where you just "go" and react without th...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

... that moment between trying to learn to ride a bicycle and then actually riding the bicycle, where you wonder 'how did I do that', but just the fact that you are wondering how you did it proves that the moment is over.... Is that close? Oh yes, it most certainly is. In that privileged moment bet...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Two points I forgot to mention previously: ● A hunch had got me toying with the internet, and I found this: In the Bible, Isaiah 43:1, God says: "I have called you by your name; you are mine." Maybe this could be seen in parallel to "Love calls you by your name". (Some say that God is Love...) The i...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, as I said before, "break", to me, seems a pretty un-funny replacement term for "teach". Of course, the "politically correct" interpretation is that it means to "train" a horse, but the cleavage between the ideal and the often observed reality is shown pretty well by exactly that chosen term....

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi again, here two pictures from screenshots of "Anyhow" on Live in Dublin . LC bolo 1.jpg LC bolo 2.jpg My location, as I already said somewhere on this thread, is some 70 km north of Marseille, but not in a town or village. I live out in the country. Horses nowadays have become rare in agglomerati...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, starting with the Video Bonus Tracks, then listening to all the songs' ends on Live in Dublin , I couldn't find the "chanting" you mention. So here's just a titbit for the category "trivia": The bolo tie Leonard Cohen is wearing during "Anyhow" (the second song of the Video Bonus Tracks) rem...

The Fool: 12.2 – A breath of nothing

You know who I am, you've stared at the sun, well I am the one who loves changing from nothing to one. Leonard Cohen, You Know Who I Am The Nothing shan't live like a dog either Have we now finally resolved Zeno's "youthful effort"? Given the history of "final resolutions", from Aristotle onwards, i...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

"Night" is compelling, isn't it? That first part of my signature is meant as a comment on my avatar picture. The second and the third part are borrowed from Leonard Cohen. The musical sequences are from "tonight will be fine ... for a while " and from "Held you for a little while / My Oh My Oh My" (...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Its4inthemorning, you're putting words on my feelings! This thread is most delightful for me as well indeed. This is partly due to the contributions from very different horizons, as you say, and partly to the fresh look caused by Vickie's impulsion. And yes, that deserves a Thank You! After your tho...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Some of you may be wondering who Victoria is :) At the time Leonard was a little obsessed and fascinated with her but she officially belonged to someone else by the name of Mac ;-) All he could ever hope to possess of her was her voice over which he had total control. But she was also available to ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Yes, Vickie, apparently there is such a risk indeed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code I don't understand all of these technicalities, but it seems to be quite a nuisance — at least for honest DVD buyers. Its4inthemorning, we'll quite simply remember the fact that you don't know Vickie a...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, it took me a long time because simple things are difficult, as I said before. And I'm an atheist because I don't use God for my personal schemes and calculations and desires to get the world under my control. Also, I don't believe in Him... The two views are not exactly opposing views; they ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi Vickie, here my attempts at being a bit clearer: The first point concerns the line "I lit a thin green candle" in One of us cannot be wrong . Human thought is not one continuous track like this thread is, it is always operating on several levels simultaneously (or separated only by fractions of s...
