Re: A mention in yesterday,s I paper

This, for me, sums up the genius of Leonard Cohen.

He is a transcendental presence, blessed with two of the most
attractive qualities a human being can possess: generosity and charisma.

Any news of when Len and Co might play UK next?

Re: Feeling a bit better about simply being human

The great English poet Philip Larkin sums it up best for me, in one of his seminal late poems, "The Mower": "We should be careful of each other, we should be kind while there is still time" Simply put, compassion is my passion. One of the most striking aspects of Leonard's work, for me, is his syncr...

Re: "I'm Your Man" in the Times Sunday Book Review

But - can you believe yet another writer/reviewer has concluded their piece with those closing lines from Anthem? I mean, I love them too - I absolutely do. They're the lines I'd pick for my funeral for God's sake. Everybody loves 'em, but writers really ought to cast around for some others sometim...

Re: Happy National Poetry Day

I love these excerpts, thank you for sharing.

JFK's famous saying "When power corrupts, poetry cleanses" seems more timely
than ever.

The excerpt can be read here. http://www.arts.gov/about/Kennedy.html

Happy National Poetry Day

It's National Poetry Day in the UK, so I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy National Poetry Day, not just in the UK but to anyone who might be reading this in other countries. May the wonder of poetry never end. And as Keats once wrote, "The poetry of earth is never dead". I particularly love this...

Re: BBC Radio 4 News - inappropriate association

Leonard has set up an organisation to promote peace in the Middle East, so he is a totally inappropriate person to associate with potential conflict. But doesn't Leonard investigation the idea of "reconciliation" in many of his songs? Man's capacity for conflict is boundless; the quest for peace so...

Re: UPDATED: TOUR MERCHANDISE / EUROPE

Hi Margaret,

Just picked this thread up again :)

I bought the Book of Mercy T-shirt, for a little over £11.00.

Really happy with purchase, took about 10 days to arrive to UK.

As you say, a bargain when compared with prices for current tour!

Hope you managed to get what you wanted :)

Re: Leonard Cohen, contender for Nobel Prize for Literature?

Wouldn't it be fantastic if Leonard could get nominated again?

Really believe his body of work meets the criteria of universality, competence and
significance. Unquestionably, his global reach is greater than ever since going
back on the road.

Shame it's not a popular vote :)

Re: What does Leonard mean to you?

Your words are exactly what I have felt about dear and respected Leonard since coming across him only a few months ago Thank you for your kind words. I believe, wholeheartedly, that one is never too young to become acquainted to the music of L Cohen and drink in the effable beauty of his words and ...
