It seems to me he has neatly divided an audience of LC listeners. So either he tunes into a very specific sensibility amongst LC listeners or the others havent really heard him.
Can someone recommend a good intro album ? I guess the Eminem show is as good a place to start as any.

Lizzytysh..I have indeed heard of Eminem, just have never 'heard' him. But when a bunch of people disses somebody I am determined to like that person or his product. My favorite artistes have always been ones who manage to polarize audiences, including LC. Indeed, I have several intelligent, well-ad...

I agree with Glyn but this is really close - 141 to 139. Looks like it will all depend on Florida again.

To revisit the original topic of this thread - If it Be Your Will In 1985 at a concert LC says "This is an old prayer it came to me to rewrite" In the Q magazine interview (1994?) in answer to 'What song did you wish you had written' he answers "If It Be Your Will. And I did". Does anybody know if t...

Gords Gold and Gord's Gold vol. 2 are excellent collections....I have both on cassette tape. Vol. 2 is more pop/electronic arrangements of songs that were earlier done as folk acoustic. I would strongly recommend that. I also have the United Arttists 2 CD Collection which is essentially his first 4 ...

Hmm...now I have to hear Eminem. Was it LC who said about Eminem that there has to be something interesting in anybody who is controversial.

When I say "heard" I meant heard his discs. I don't know if he is still active. I vaguely remember he came to Dallas for a concert around 1997 but I didnt go. He has written so many great songs and rarely a bad song ever, although mostly folksy. I've been planning to replace the 'If You Could Read M...

I have heard Lightfoot maybe 8-10 times in the last 4 years or so. I used to hear him regularly before that. Canada's 2nd greatest songwriter ? Some will argue Canada's greatest balladeer and melody-maker !! Dylan said somewhere that he could let a Lightfoot record play on and on without ever stoppi...

My interpretation was based on the following quote from the leonard cohen prologues site. Especially the last line. "That song derives very directly from a Hebrew prayer that is sung on the Day of Atonement, or the evening of the Day of the Atonement:(? Hebrew) Who by fire, who by sword, who by wate...

I used to hear S&G, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot a lot at one time. But then it got old......LC is headed that way too now it seems.

In fact, I hope people will include LC albums in a accurate reflection of top 10 (or top 12 if you can't follow instructions :D ). It is clear to me that folks on this board have various degrees of appreciation for LC w.r.t other music, and I'd like to see that. My top 10+2 is a pretty accurate one ...
