I was a 19 year old hippie in 1971, travelling on a Youthpass ( roundtrip ticket to and from London for $99., use the return within one year), with my boyfriend. We had ended up with a couple -- a German man and Canary Islander woman, with whom we travelled for a bit. We were living on a beach on Gr...

RE: "Sharon Robinson wrote all the music for TNS". The jewel case states All songs by Leonard Cohen and Sharon Robinson. Sharon is also credited with arranging, and producing, and vocals. Although her contribution is consideralbe, I respectfully disagree with that statement. Somehow, I think Leonard...

I had such a belly laugh when I read Midnight's comment. Leonard is having a laugh, too. He is lighter than air as he approcaches seventy. Personally, he can name the anything he wants, as long as he keeps creating! When it comes out, I promise I'll buy it and send it to you in a brown paper w...

Whoops! Yes, I did mean Fahreheit 911. And, Peter, I will very much look forward to reading you work in The Files. Re: Kiss The Sky, the film CD I got from EBay becasue it has a Cohen Soudtrack--- well, let's just say the soundtrack is by far the best thing about it. The dialogue is entirely pretent...

Peter, I followed up reading your post, which reveals such thoughtful and knowledgeable analysis, with a visit to your profile, and see that you are a student of theology. I found your comments also show an acute "ear" for the nuances of the English language. I had not considered the differences in ...

Joe, Your review made me remember that hearing so vividly. I remembered thinking at the time that a lot of these tunes were actually danceable, strange as it may seem. Thank you so much for gifting us with lyrics for "Villanelle". I agree, this new work will demand many many listenenings. Maybe abou...

Dick,
I didn't bother to read the critical reviews before I bid on it.

I think I am only paying $10 or so, so no big loss if it stinks!

I am unsure of the stillborn reference, but the others seem to be. Of course, abortion is not "new", or peculiar to our times, it was just formerly hidden.

And of course, you all know this.

Sean,

I agree with your comment about the 'Voice" in The Future.

Another reference-- I listenened last night to "Diamonds In the Mine", and therein is the line "he taught a hundred women how to kill and unborn child".

Cheers

For some time I have been wondering about some seemingly obvious lyrics of Leonard's. Some of them could possibly be references to war (Song if Isaac), but there are some lyrics that appear to be blatantly anti-abortion (The Future). They appear in every era. Has this ever been discussed on the foru...

I find I hear much more when listening whilst driving alone usually on my way to and from work, in my most excellenet Mini Cooper (named Cohen Cooper, of course!). Leonard has no idea how many miles he has travelled with me in the past year or so. I think this foretaste he has given us is a great in...

We were sitting in the middle about 1/4 of the way back, between the speakers (a lucky happenstance) and got a good hearing. I found the rhythms to be complex, the whole "feeling" to be detached, wry, existential, except for the one about New York being wounded, which of course made me cry ( I seem ...

I believe it is signed "Leonard and Lorca". Leonard's daughter Lorca was there the evening we heard it, and I'm pretty sure they share a home.
