Re: Which LP Should Leonard play live in its entirety?

On further reflection my choices would be as follows: 1. Recent Songs 2. New Skin for the Old Ceremony 3. Songs from a Room For the following reasons: 1. Recent Songs, as John E has argued many times on this forum, is Leonard's masterpiece. But, further, it would sound magnificent given Leonard's vo...

Re: Which LP Should Leonard play live in its entirety?

Recent Songs, obviously.

But the one I think I have most difficulty re-imagining the present band playing is Dear Heather, so that would be interesting.

But Recent Songs. Obviously.

Re: Bob Dylan at the London O2 (and elsewhere)

I went to my first Dylan gig this week, in Glasgow. I have about 10 of his albums and listen to them from time to time. With the exception of Blood on the Tracks, which I think is superb, I tend to admire them more than I love them, but there is no doubting his genius and his seminal importance and ...

Re: What's your favourite song from each LC studio album?

Great question. I really had to think about this one. Here goes: Songs of LC -- Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye (but this was a very tough call) Songs from a Room -- Seems so Long ago, Nancy Songs of L and H -- Famous Blue Raincoat (of course, but with Last Year's Man a very close second) New Skin...

I agree about FBR. Glad that you're also going to Liverpool. I'll be there too and I hope we can meet up for a beer. I'm also going to Dublin on 20 July. All good things.

Re: "Leonard Cohen Live in London" - DVD & 2CD - April 2009

I've just watched the DVD for the third time and I have to say I increasingly do not know what all the complaining is about. It gets better with every showing. It recaptures the extraordinary intimacy of the concerts I saw last year, and that is some achievement. And it is so generous with what it g...

Re: How good is Live in London?

John E -- I know it's bizarre. But bizarre questions can be fun. I agree that Recent Songs is Leonard's most special studio album. I think we've talked about that before. What I like about Field Commander Cohen are the rich variations in the musicianship in (eg) The Window, This Smokey Life and The ...

Re: "Leonard Cohen Live in London" - DVD & 2CD - April 2009

Osmacher - I agree that he didn't speak/interact as much during the Glasgow concerts (which were far and away the best of the five I attended last year, btw) as he does on the CD/DVD, but I was at Manchester OH in June last year and there it was much the same as was evidently the case at the O2. In ...

Re: "Leonard Cohen Live in London" - DVD & 2CD - April 2009

John E -- I agree. I rolled into Fopp in Hillhead (Glasgow) at about 4pm yesterday afternoon and bought the last copy they had of the DVD. That store has 10 more on order, apparently. There were several copies of the CD left. I had already listened to the music via NPR but the CD sounds magnificant ...

Re: Which "lesser known" songs do you wish Leonard would play?

MarkD -- none of these songs has been performed in the 2008-09 tour(s).

My choices would be The Guests, Alexandra Leaving, and The Traitor.

How good is Live in London?

We know that in Leonard's dystopian future there is nothing that can be measured anymore. As a public-sector worker in the UK it might, from my perspective, have been more dystopian if he'd suggested a future in which there is nothing than cannot be measured any more. Audit, league tables, and all t...

John

Is there any truth to the rumour that for the first 100 days the DVD and CD are to be sold exclusively by Ticketmaster?

I trust you are well.

Hi John

The Future ("white girls dancing").

At least, so it was at Glasgow earlier in the month.

Glad you (all) so enjoyed the RAH shows.

All best,
