Re: Confessions in the Graveyard

I had intended to spend a quiet hour re-reading the poem originally submitted here but found myself, instead, reading and rereading the posts which followed. It may be my age - I would certainly be a contemporary of Leonard's - but I found some of the posts here to be quite harsh. Alan wrote: 'JImmy...

Re: Confessions in the Graveyard

'The traditional line in those circumstances is to cry "look at that terrible critic, he thinks he owns the Forum, how kind of him to allow me to post on his Forum". The useless sarcasm hides the useless role of such a person who himself contributes little to nothing to the writer.' I am relatively ...

Re: Confessions in the Graveyard

Jill, I find this a most intriguing piece of work which I need to consider over the weekend. Very intriguing. 'So, unless it was a shock twist (unusually revealed at the start of the narrative...' I'm tending to disagree on this point Michael. I believe revelation in the early stages of a narrative ...

Re: Snap.

'Now. I see that this time you start out with the idea of making a limerick, instead of a sonnet. But that, just as before, you quit the idea at some point out of frustration.' Greg, if you are serious, and I have no reason to assume you are not, then the point of your post is either to make trouble...

Re: Snap.

Jimmy thank you. Yes the last line is part of the poem. This section, the middle one: 'This, of course, is after the winter sleet and you in your overcoat standing in the damp kitchen, bellowing the fire through the careful coal with an open newspaper. Your eyes, I notice, are level with my own. The...

Re: Sonnet

Dear Mickey, Thank you for your post. I had nort expected my piece to geberate this debate and I regret it I must admit I was quite taken aback by someone rewriting something I had written. I cannot understand that you would perceive sensitivity about one's work as a cause for sadness. My piece of w...

Re: Sonnet

Dear jimbo,
Does that freedom extend to taking someone's work and rewriting it without any consideration of the intent, content or feeling of the piece, much less the right of the author to the control of his or her writing?
I think not.

Re: Sonnet

Dear Greg, what you have done in your post leaves me breathless at the extent of your presumption. To take the metric range of someone's work as a yardstick by which you believe you can then rewrite something that misses the heart of what and why I wrote the piece astonishes me. You are free to make...
