Thanksgiving

On the occasion of Thanksgiving in the US, Joann and I would like to give thanks for these memories: PBS Television 2009--a serendipitous viewing of "Live in London" revealing that our favorite artist of yesteryear was alive, well, and still performing. This discovery wound up affecting our lives pr...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Since finding this forum several years ago, I was always pleasantly surprised that our group always remained focused on Leonard and his body of work and avoided off-topic and divisive subjects. I venture to say that this is unique among widely-followed internet forums, and it is something that allow...

Re: Bench updates

The whole point of a stone bench was its permanence. A wooden bench deteriorates rather quickly, even the more durable ones we've had in our garden never last ten years. Maybe this is why the Parthenon was not constructed of wood. I am quite perplexed why forces keep arising to thwart our project to...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Eighty-two years, all lived with such class.

Thanks for the words, thanks for tunes, they are forever.

Condolences to Leonard's family, and to all those who treasure his work and are grieving.

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Just received C/D from Amazon today. After two listens, here is my "FOXWOOD" type review: Like the way everything fits together to maximize the overall impact on the listener. Favorite track is "Steer Your Way," great lyrics put to a captivating tune. We got truth in advertising, in comparison "Song...

Re: Leonard Cohen's health

My wife just turned 82 and, like LC, has back issues (which she is dealing with). I know she would not be enthralled to read online discussions about her conditions and ultimate demise, and (if he reads these pages), LC might not as well. I know such speculations come with the territory for celebrit...

Re: Leonard 80 years: Fund Raising for our Hydra Bench

Agree 100% with Tripping that surplus bench funds go to HydraArk to help defray some of their expenses in helping the animals of Hydra. Animal organizations hardly ever receive government grants and assistance, so excess bench funds going to HydraArk would help fill a void. From what I've read about...

Oh, I thought "album" meant vinyl rather than CD. Anyone know how I can "upgrade" my pledge? Thanks.

Re: Now: Interview with Hattie Webb

John, this was a very nice thing to do, for Hattie and for all of us on this forum. Just did "the least you can do" by ordering Hattie's CD and am looking forward to hearing it. (Would love to have ordered the package with handwritten lyric sheet, but that came with an album rather than CD.)

Re: Store room

"Store Room" has always intrigued/puzzled me since I first heard it on the remastered version of one of LC's first three albums (I forget which one right now). Of course like so many of his songs, the meaning of the lyrics is wide open to interpretation. But my questions are more basic, for example:...

Re: Looking for the greatest star

This subject brings to mind a different and very real connection between rock music and astronomy: Brian May, lead guitarist for Queen, earned a BS degree in mathematics and physics in college in the UK, and had been pursuing his PhD, with his doctoral thesis to be the study of "reflected light from...

Re: Terrible news from Hydra

Goldin, please carefully reread what I posted. I said nothing about HydraArk, I said "nonprofit organization(s) that benefit the overall community."

Why try to promote arguments where none exist, especially at this sad time?
