Cohen's lyrics to 'Democracy' were printed in Private Eye's 'Psueds Corner' back in 1993. As they are his most risible it seemed fair enough. As for Merton's comments, yes he does protest too much. Just like many Radio1 DJs over the years who make cheap, easy Cohen jokes then confess in more private...

This goes a long way in explaining last Tuesday's piece on the criminal Bar in The Times. They didn't use a picture of you and called you a 'big beast'. Perhaps a few good studio shots are in order?

Tysh Dearest, the point is to try to get you to see that for yourself. The root problem with the line was the word 'my'. It should not have been there to start with. Without it what you meant becomes crystal clear. Do you see that now?
