For A Second I Forgot

Sometimes I feel a poem doesn't quite hit the mark. I work it and re-work it and often just let it go - put it out there. In it's original form this was a poem that started off as two separate poems which I then merged. I had at least 20 stanzas to choose from and experimented with changing them ar...

Re: Hung Out To Dry

But why a clue, not clarity and I'm still left pondering why this particular cruel charade? (Incidentally, I'd probably label myself agnostic at a push but atheist for all practical purposes. I have a hard time believing a supreme being might have any personal interest in me and my petty aggravation...

Yes. The horror was similarly expressed in Lucca too.

Hung Out To Dry

It was a Christian minister who drew my attention to the idea of the crucifixion as child abuse. He suggested there might be an alternative moral to the narrative. I thought trying to draw a consistent or clear moral conclusions from the New Testament was as feasible as pinning water to the wall. Th...

Re: Male Sensibility and Experience

I'm Your Man doesn't really illustrate what most are hinting male sensibility is since it's about weakness and vulnerability. The male is not the one holding the cards in this little power play.

Re: Male Sensibility and Experience

Hi Steven,

I'm still left wondering which gender based distinctions caused by biology would constitute a male sensibility? (I mean I understand there are some biological sex based distinctions.. genitalia, reproductive capacity, facial hair, fat distribution etc.)

Re: Male Sensibility and Experience

I had a hard time getting my head around what male sensibility is. Gender surely is a social construct that changes over place and time? What it means to be a man is always in flux. These qualities we call gender seem distributed across both sexes. I love it when people are not tyrannised by these c...

I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs never lie about love & we love them back. Then sadly you have to let them go. I hope fond memories sustain you. By the way, I've been moved by the stuff you've written here and thought I should let you know.

Cate, why not include your subsequent comment on how it left you for your husband once all passion was spent?

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hi Lizzy ~ Thanks for the kind comments. I wish I had noble motives for letting my sister do the talking.... but I found there was nothing in my head that I didn't censor and dismiss before saying it. My sister on the other hand told him she had listened since she was 9! He was so kind to us. We did...

Re: What Inspires Me: Leonard Cohen

I feel exactly the same about his work. Those very simple lines "The birds they sang at the break of day/Start again, I heard them say" have helped when I've been "slouching through another night"

Yes Ness... a metaphor for human hubris.... that's why I was thinking an Odyssey reference might be good because that was one long tale of the consequence of hubris. I like the way you've picked up on .LC references and run with them.

Re: Signs

Yes I agree lizzy. Titanic is an anachronism. Why not have the Titanic sailing again to maintain that feeling of impending doom while clarifying that the signs are now. And if i could humbly suggest it sails on a 'wine dark' sea... 'cause then you reference the Odyssey too! :D
