Re: The Window

I agree about R.S. being the masterpiece: you get the impression that a lot of detailed work and thought went into every aspect of it. A shame it seems to be one of his lesser-known albums. Although I'd say it's his best album, I don't seem to listen to it that much: it demands a greater degree of c...

Re: What made you choose your posting name?

I chose my name because I've always admired the character Parsifal in Richard Wagner's opera 'Parsifal'. I admire the opera, too. And I like the sound of the name. :D

I'm known as Parsifal on a couple of other forums. It doesn't do to complicate things.

Re: Favourite Album

I voted for SOLAH, as it's the one I listen to the most and the one that contains my two all-time favourite Cohen songs (LYM and DRR).

However, 'favourite' doesn't mean best: for all round consistent quality, I'd give the palm to either Recent Songs or Various Positions.

Re: Concert Memories:London and Birmingham

Thanks for those memories, John. :D Although I've been fortunate in having near-the- front seats for Leonard's recent concerts, I would have loved to have seen him years ago in a more intimate venue.

Concert Memories:London and Birmingham

A couple of older friends of mine gave me some interesting concert anecdotes that date back to the seventies/eighties. The location of the first was a concert at London's Victoria Theatre (have checked that it would have been about '76, though there is not set-list): LC was called back for repeated ...

Re: Whats your favourite Leonard Cohen's song?

'Dress Rehearsal Rag' is probably my favourite. It's a very brave song. It takes guts to admit there are times when life seems so unbearably painful.

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Liverpool, July 14

Singing I don't mind, most of the time. I myself find it very difficult NOT to sing along sometimes, but I try to restrict my 'contribution' to a low key hum. Talking, however, reallly gets my goat. A couple of people behind me kept up a pretty constant stream of (loud) chatter throughout the first ...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Liverpool, July 14

After Weybridge on Saturday, I had to see him again...and he and the band did not disappoint. Did anyone else noticed what appeared to be a bit of 'teasing' going on at the beginning of the second half? Leonard picked up his acoustic and tantalised us with the riff of You Know Who I Am, before going...

Re: Meetup in Liverpool 14th.July

Thanks, Margaret. :)

Of course, I could have looked it up on the site, couldn't I? But after the seething confusion of Weybridge on Saturday, I've lost faith in the ability of concert organisers to make anything clear.

Can anyone recommend a good place to park near the arena?

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Weybridge, July 11

Reading these horror stories of late arrivals only confirms me in my belief that you need to dedicate a WHOLE DAY to ensuring you get there on time. My uncle tells a story of setting of from Manchester at 12.00pm on a Sunday to see Bruce Springsteen at the 02 - perfectly reasonable start time, you w...

Re: What's your favourite song from each LC studio album?

A VERY tough call, but I'll have a go: my second choice is in brackets - Songs Of: Suzanne (Master Song) From A Room: Seems So Long Ago, Nancy (You Know Who I Am) Love And Hate: Dress Rehearsal Rag - can't believe no one's picked this before! (Last Year's Man) Live Songs: Bird On The Wird (You Know ...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Weybridge, July 11

Hello, everyone This forum was invaluable to me in helping me decide how I was going to travel to Weybride (by train in the end - good call, I think) and the people on here seem very positive and like-minded, so I thought I'd join. Weybridge was my first (and possibly only) LC concert: frankly, I fi...
