Re: How do people not *get* him?

I think a lot of people don't get him for the reasons articulated by hydriot a few posts earlier. Additionally, though, the reputation that he's acquired, through no fault of his own, can often be a barrier. If I hadn't been 'told' that LC's music was 'depressing', it would never have occurred to me...

Honour, Gods and Gangsters

Anyone else seen this book? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gods-Gangsters-Honour-Steven-Machat/dp/1905636709/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251411530&sr=8-1 Stephen Machat is the son of long-time Cohen manager Martin J. Machat. The book includes a substantial - and not very complimentary - chapter on Mr. ...

Re: The Incredible String Band

Hi, John I've only just ventured onto this part of the forum, so it was a pleasure to read your very detailed review. :) I would have said that ISB without Robin Williamson would be a case of Hamlet without the Prince....but, having recently heard and enjoyed Nebulous Nearness, I'm not so sure. To b...

Re: Bob's new album to benefit those in need

I think this project has been on the cards for quite some time.....Bob first 'came out' as a Bing Crosby fan in the mid-80s and expressed some interest in covering songs associated with him. Isn't Bob meant to be Jewish, though? I know he's had a chequered religious past, but the last I heard was th...

Humbled In Love

It's only recently occurred to me that this has recently supplanted The Smoky Life as my favourite song on Recent Songs. I'm not sure why, though.... I think it has to do with both the song and the arrangement being so unexpected: this sounds like it could have been written to order for Manhattan Tr...

Re: Isle of Wight release - all details

Hi Parsifal, Yes I remember Gary Farr, I have vinyl albums that at the moment we can't play, no record deck set up. Also have in the last year have got hold of Take Something With You on cd. It holds fond memories of when I used to see him play at The Roundhouse in London, around about 68-69 probab...

Re: Isle of Wight release - all details

I just hope we don't get any of the execrable MC "Rikki" on the DVD - that WOULD spoil it. Watched Message To Love again yesterday and what a bore he was, so I hope he was asleep at the time of the Cohen concert. Ah, c'mon! Rikki Farr MAKES that festival! Just watching him progress from vibes n'pea...

Re: Cohen has ONE bad habit

[/quote] I stand corrected! The shows I attended do indeed have the same number of songs, apart from Weybridge which was 1 song shorter, but it was chucking it down with rain, so fair enough! They do feel like they've got shorter as time goes on, probably because time spent with Leonard just flies b...

Re: Cohen has ONE bad habit

There were definitely a lot more intros at the beginning of the tour. There were many discussions pro and con on the forum about this topic. By dropping the many band introductions, perhaps this enabled them to add more songs to the setlist :? :D . Possibly, except they seem to have reduced the set...

Re: Cohen has ONE bad habit

I think this is something he's been doing for a while. Check out the FCC album and you'll hear him doing it there. I can appreciate that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I rather like it....and I believe it was the form to do this in showbiz in the early/middle years of the last century. So, LC w...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Weybridge, July 11

Here is our belated review of the wet/weybridge concert ... http://www.dorsetbay.plus.com/events/lcwey/lcwey01.htm Helen & steve Good review, but I don't think the setlist was short by a song: Democracy was played instead of Waiting For The Miracle, as seemed to be the case with the next run of per...

Re: Leonard naked

In conclusion, I would eventually like to see “Ladies Man” re-issued as a double album, with both a pared-down and a re-mastered version of the original. I think that the four tracks that would benefit most from re-mastering would be “True Love Leaves No Traces”, “Iodine”, “Don’t Go Home With Your ...

Re: Favorite LC song RIGHT NOW

I am in tune with mnkyface at the moment. BE FOR REAL is being aired. Plus I have been re tuned to Dear Heather and UNDERTOW which I kinda like. I tried to catch up with some form filling today with Leonard in the background. Can't be done... All I could concentrate on was Leonards voice in my ear ...

Re: Once and only

Too right. I could have seen him in Manchester in 1985, only I decided not to because I had a mock exam the morning after his concert.

Still can't believe how stupid I was!

At least I got to see him eventually, though, so all ended happily. :D
