Popular Problems - First Impressions

I just finished listening to Popular Problems for the very first time. I don't want to really spoil anything for anyone. I know the complete lyrics are available and posted in this forum. So some of you may already be familiar with the subject matter of some of these songs. Anyway, I just wanted to ...

Re: "Popular Problems" - the next LC album (late September 2

I wonder why such great songs like "priests" and "god is alive magic is afood" are not recorded, hope he did it sometime in the past or that he would do it some time in the futer. "God is Alive Magic is Afoot" is a great song?? I believe it is a poem and has always remained so. Frankly, I don't bel...

Re: "Popular Problems" - the next LC album (late September 2

I wish the new CD were a little longer as well. I mean, he spent so much time crafting a song like "Feels So Good" while on the road, why not put together a studio version? I'd have to imagine that a song they've worked on for years would be a lot quicker to record in a studio compared to something ...

Re: Press Release

Does anyone know why Sharon Robinson isn't a co-writer of this project? I mean, was there any particular reason that her involvement with this album (if there is any) is considerably limited compared to Leonard's last few releases? Speaking of who is involved, does anyone have a list of names for wh...

Re: Six years ago today...

It is hard to believe that it is already six years since the unexpected return of Leonard Cohen to the concert stage -- on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2008. I decided to look up the setlist from that evening's performance, so I wandered over to setlist.fm and found it http://www.setlist.fm/setlis...

Re: Barb Jungr covers Bob and Leonard on the Southbank

Ugh...when her cover of Everybody Knows started, I wanted to strangle her! But, I have to admit, as the accompanying musicians started picking it up I was able to tolerate it. Definitely not my cup of tea, but I'd say overall she did a respectable job covering that tune.

Re: Who is Patrick Leonard?

I, too, first became aware of Patrick Leonard because of his contribution on Pink Floyd's 1987 album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. When he was brought on to Co-Produce Roger Waters' solo album Amused to Death (1992), I knew that he must be good. Roger isn't going to bring anyone but the best into his...

Re: Need to get permission to use Leonard's poems as song ly

Normally, if you'd like to cover an artist's song you'd have to contact the publishing company (after first figuring out who owns the publishing rights ) and request permission. Publishing can be tricky business. I'm sure we would all agree that someone like Leonard Cohen probably wouldn't care abou...

Re: Rare Film Clips Of Leonard Cohen To Be Screened

Normally, I would say that anything that could bring Leonard Cohen's work to new audiences, provide new exposure of his career, would be a wonderful thing. What bothers me about this is Mr. Bill Shelley is profiting from this. It's one thing to be a fan and get a little carried away in your exciteme...

Re: When,Where,And What Was The First LC Song You Heard?

The first time I heard Leonard Cohen was from the movie "Natural Born Killers". The Same for me. From the opening sequence when Waiting For The Miracle started playing, I was practically hypnotised by the voice and words of this then-unknown singer. I was delighted to hear two more tracks from L.C....

Re: Chelsea Hotel NO.1 LYRICS help!

Like you said, Leonard loves to change lyrics during live performances. Here is another video clip of Leonard performing Chelsea Hotel #1 but it is much different than the version you posted. I hope you enjoy it. Leonard drops an F-bomb in this version. You don't hear that too often... http://...

Re: 2012 Recordings

Hello. Could someone please explain to me what "DIME" is. I saw a couple of posts and I believe it must be a bit torrent site. If it is, how do I go about getting an account on it? What is the URL? I've got a 100Mbit/10Mbit line in my house so I could definitely be a permanent seeder, if that's what...

I can't wait for the show tonight! I have never seen a concert in this theater, only stand-up comedy (Craig Ferguson). Hopefully the acoustics are complimentary to his sound. To everyone going to tonight's show...Have a wondeful time. I will be sitting in the Orchestra Right Center, Row W, Seat 2...
