Re: su soldado

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Violet. The inspiration comes from Neruda, one of my absolute favorites. There’s such ferocity in his work and that’s what I was aiming for here (not that I could ever hold a candle to him).

Thanks for the kind words…it means everything to me.

su soldado

su soldado let us go to spain. we'll have a fine place on the promenade, and i'll bring you oranges from the marketplace. and at night, armed with only my guitar, i will brave the pulsing avenidas. singing my pitiful songs, passing a withered hat, and looking into the eyes of a ragged dawn. and i'l...

Re: Anniversary

Re: History of One Tough Motherfucker

I’m so glad to see your post here Steven, because I’ve always felt the same way. Here we have two seemingly very dissimilar men, but I feel they have plenty in common and they are two of my favorite writers. As writers, both have beaten themselves up plenty, both have struggled with inadequacy, and ...

Re: Anniversary

My dear Cate,

This is lovely…and so touching. You really paint a beautiful picture. I feel like a spy peering over the fence. A stranger to all of the unspoken details, and yet, I still understand. That speaks volumes about your ability.

Warmly,

I can't thank you enough for the kind words Mary, it means the world to me.

You talk of painting...are you a painter?

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Right back atcha, everyone. Thanks for the warm welcome. Diana, I'm glad you dig my little poem. It's causing quite an unexpected row over there. And as for the tilde (ñ), the keys to hit are Alt 164. Should do the trick. Also, if any of you lovely people care to put me in your ears, you can do it h...

Re: meet me downtown tonight, and wear that green sweater

Hi Alice, Arrogant? Hardly. Precious? Well, my mother might agree with you on that one. I’d like to go on record here in an attempt to better explain my position on this thread. I hope it clears things up. I know these boards can be tricky. When you only have the printed word in front of you (withou...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hello all, I've been here a couple of weeks and I'm only now seeing this thread about introductions. Forgive my tardiness. I'm a long time fan of the man who, I must admit, only found you because of the recent tour announcement. However, I will follow up by saying that I'm here for more than that. I...

Re: meet me downtown tonight, and wear that green sweater

Wow, what a thread! There’s just too much to address here, but I’ll cover what I feel I should. First, and foremost, I have no interest in revising the poem. This is how I write and I don’t question it. When it comes to writing and writers, my influences mainly come from the gutter. To me, that is w...

Ah, Cate. You have me suddenly wishing I were French-Canadian!

Tell me...what does the accent of a poor debauched boy from Detroit do for you?

Re: "Partisan" translation

This is an interesting debate and I have a story to share about the subject. I lived in Barcelona for a while and, while I was there, I came to know a Quebecois who was a classical guitarist. He told me that he travelled to France frequently and had found that certain women really loved his accent. ...
