Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Hello all you lovely people. Tons to absorb here, thanks! Your analysis increases my appreciation of the album. I also agree with those who say they don't like to analyse because it spoils the magic. But Leonard Cohen encourages us to rest in contradictions. A comment and a question: I see the song ...

The Layers by Stanley Kunitz

I have walked through many lives, some of them my own, and I am not who I was, though some principle of being abides, from which I struggle not to stray. When I look behind, as I am compelled to look before I can gather strength to proceed on my journey, I see the milestones dwindling toward the hor...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

So knowing and mourning are holding hands once again, time having taken its inevitable toll. Those he leaves behind are orphans now, all of us — and we inherit a rare treasure. Let me bow to both truths, the awful one and the grateful one, and let sadness do what it must. My condolences to his fami...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Of course, words are inadequate, but Leonard Cohen - poetic genius, balladeer to our souls, ladies' man, gentleman, and gentle man - thank You! You know that our love goes with you...

May everyone live,
And may everyone die,
Hello, my love,
And my love, Goodbye.

Dear Leonard Cohen, belated greetings for your 82nd.

I just heard the title track of your new album. Speechless.

How come it's your birthday, and we get all the gifts?

Re: Hattie's releases

Thanks for the info, Jarkko. Having seen online her live performance of the title track of To The Bone, I realised she is very much an artist of note in her own right, and not merely riding on LC's coat tails.

Re: King Creosote, fae Fife with love and hate

Many years after you posted, having seen him recently, I have to agree that King Creosote - despite his daft name - is rather good, Danny! He has an immense back-catalogue, and a new album out on Sept 2nd. From his two most recent albums: Something to Believe In (from From Scotland With Love): https...

Moving and uplifting. And it's like a footnote to "So Long Marianne".

By The Rivers Dark in "The Last Trapper"

I recently saw The Last Trapper (Le Dernier Trappeur), a 2004 Nicolas Vanier documentary/film about a trapper in the Yukon. It features By the Rivers Dark, by LC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcKvJRBUE6o For over 20 years, Nicolas Vanier, an untiring voyager in the coldest of climes, a veritable ...

Re: New poem "Steer Your Way"

Thanks for posting this, Hartmut! I was trying to make sense of the final stanza, when I noticed the repetition of the word, 'never': Steer your way, O my heart, though I have no right to ask To the one who was never never equal to the task Who knows he’s been convicted, who knows he will be shot Ye...
