Re: Old Ideas song snippets

I know I'm treading on hallowed ground here. I loved "Show Me the Place", but wish I had never listened to the snippets of the other songs on the album. Perhaps it was the simple acoustic sound (sans band)....perhaps it was simply because there wasn't quite enough of each song, but it didn't work w...

Re: Old Ideas song snippets

I agree, Jerry... not what I expected, either.

Was hoping for a fuller sound like "The Future"... or at least full band arrangements. A lot of these do have the synthesized feel that plagued 10 New Songs.

But hard to call from just 30 seconds.

Re: OLD IDEAS - THE NEW ALBUM - January 31, 2012

Friday is 27th? That means January 31 is Tuesday, and new CDs in continental Europe are published on Fridays (e.g. in Croatia they reach stores in Friday afternoon in quicker stores, and mostly Saturdays morning in others). That means Old Ideas will be out on January 27/28 OR next Friday, February ...

Re: Leonard recites That is What I Heard You Say in new TV s

There are always some who feel "their" artist is above being in a large commercial endeavor, particularly those who have managed success without it. I am not one of those people, because this is not the first time his music has been used in film or television. But here is some perspective: "Natural ...

Re: OLD IDEAS - THE NEW ALBUM

I'm as happy as the rest of you, of course, who could be a fan of Leonard Cohen and not be thrilled at the news of a new album? I'm going to be honest and say that I'm glad "Born in Chains" won't be on this album. That song didn't do much for me. I apologize to the many here who do enjoy that song....

Re: OLD IDEAS - THE NEW ALBUM

Yes, new Waits and new Cohen does make for a fantastic end of year/start of next for music lovers.

I, too, am curious as to whether or not this album (or perhaps the next next album) was recorded with full band.

It sounds so beautiful... does evoke the memories of being there. I was trying not to let myself get overwhelmed by Hallelujah. FBR did me in.

Re: Songs From the Road - New DVD/CD, BluRay, LP

Great cover and good title. Im particularly glad that "Heart With No Companion", "Partisan" and "That Don't Make it Junk are Included". It's also pleased that I attended one of the featured concerts ("Chelsea Hotel" at the Royal Albert Hall" Nov.17th 2008). I am particularly excited to hear Heart W...

Re: Leonard Cohen Talks About First New Album of the Decade

About the new album: I asked for Leonard's permission to give some details, and here we go: All the songs for the new album have been written. One of them, "The Street", is co-written with Anjani (not recorded yet) He has already recorded four tracks for the new album: The Darkness Amen Lullaby I K...

Re: "Bird on a wire" (the Tony Palmer film) coming on DVD

Is this the film that we saw clips of a while back, where Cohen and the band perform "So Long, Marianne" and are too emotional to go back on stage?

Re: Leonard Cohen not liking Switzerland's audience?

The topic is a question: Is Leonard Cohen not liking Switzerland's audiences?

The original poster is asking the question, because there seems to be a lack of Swiss dates, so he/she is wondering if Leonard doesn't like to play there.

Re: "Ten New Songs" One of the Decade's Best

Mirka, well said!!! But it seems like we are on own tundra sometimes. Making this list is fantastic...but 100th?????? I had to listen to the #1 album and couldn't make it past the second song, barely made it through the 1st. Had to recall a certain quote from Marx about the masses. :neutral...

Thanks for all the great videos!

I wasn't there, but can only imagine. What an experience this year has been. Never been so happy to cry at beauty! For those of you who have not yet had the chance, how happy I am for you that the tour continues into 2010. You'll never forget!

Didn't he only have like $5 Million in his retirement fund? Good for him. It's too bad this is what it took to get him out there, but... I'm so thankful things worked out the way did. Both for me and him. :)

Dude has been touring since '08. That's incredible!

Jarkko, do you have any insight as to how the decision was reached to continue the tour? Was this in the works for a while, or a decision made recently?
