Interesting piece about the Hotel Chelsea

Here: Room to move: why New York's Chelsea Hotel is being immortalised in dance. The Chelsea Hotel has been woven into New York's bohemian fabric for more than a century, and now a new dance piece hymns the legend. Here its makers explain why... http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2013/oct/30/chelsea-h...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: London, UK , September 15, 2013

At the beginning of the concert, after Dance Me, when Leonard was thanking the people who had “climbed those heights” to the high bleachers, he said, “If you feel neglected, just call out my name”. I almost wished I had been sitting up there, so that I would be included in this invitation to call o...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: London, UK , September 15, 2013

Probably my last Cohen concert (though never say never!), I went to the O2 with mixed feelings. Though usually I have a seat near the front, this time I had opted for the cheap seats, although I bought them in the presale so they were right at the front of the cheap section. It is dizzyingly high at...

Re: "Cohen is music's favorite misogynist..."

'Misogynist'! Jeez, people do like to bandy that word about... some of his lyrics can be a little uncomfortable as a woman, but anyone who takes misogyny away from LC's songs has got the wrong end of the stick.

Re: Bob Dylan's paintings on show.

Bob's paintings do get hawked around a bit - I've seen them in a gallery in London and an arts centre in Woking in the last few years. Leonard's not so much. Sad state of affairs...

Re: I miss "Anthem"!!

It's odd - back at my first concert in 2008, Anthem was the song that first made my eyes go wet. Completely unexpected as it had not been a particular favourite of mine. Somehow seeing it live moved it to the first league of Cohen songs for me, and it has always remained special. So I am looking for...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: LONDON, JUNE 21, 02 ARENA

My friend remarked to me what a young crowd it was at the O2, and I like to think that we're still young (early 30s, about the age LC was when he got started  ). There were definitely plenty of 20/30 somethings there I thought, and as you say TommyJ, your daughter is quite the concert veteran n...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: LONDON, JUNE 21, 02 ARENA

Just got an email from AEG: 'Five Stars for Leonard Cohen! Leonard Cohen's performance at The O2 London last Friday was an unforgettably magical evening that proved once again Leonard's status as a musical legend. With a career spanning six decades and sell out shows around the world, the writer, po...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: LONDON, JUNE 21, 02 ARENA

As I mentioned on Facebook, that particular Guardian reviewer has got form for dreadful reviews! You wouldn't know it was a 5 star review from the text... Anyway, I've been very slow to write up my concert review, apologies for slackness. I hadn't seen Leonard and the band since last September at We...

Re: Is it becoming slightly stale?

Strong points, somewhat_nifty. Such a personal thing, but I am amazed that I always seem to find something that moves me at these concerts, even as I too approach my 11th gig tonight (with my 12 year old daughter - it's her 3rd Leonard concert). While that continues, I'll keep on gratefully attendi...

Re: Is it becoming slightly stale?

Interesting to read this thread, as I approach my eleventh concert this Friday. I know (pretty much) what I'm going to get. It would be fab to hear some of my particular album favourites, but I know it's not going to happen. And why should it? As has been said upthread, 95% of the concert goers will...
