Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi Louis! Thanks for the thoughtful response, very nice of you to take the time. I am, of course, aware of that "possible option" (I didn't say that my list was exhaustive ;-) ), as well as the fact that an awful lot of people seem to believe it. However, I shall be polite and refrain from saying e...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

..."why would God allow atrocities such as the Holocaust to happen?"... Ah, yes, the eternal "Problem of Evil" for those who choose to believe in an omnipotent, benevolent, and omniscient God. There is, of course, no answer to this question, at least not one that will satisfy everybody. Possible op...

Re: The song of Leonard Cohen (Harry Rasky)

Hi Maarten,

Thanks so much for these. I've downloaded them, but I can't figure out what app or program to use to open and play them.

Any advice?

Re: Rank Leonard lyrics from saddest to happiest - and help a poor student :)

It's more than just a matter of interpretation. I don't think even the most basic affective response to some of these songs can be captured by the categories (sad/happy). Just to take one example, I wouldn't use either of those words to characterize my basic emotional response to "First We Take Manh...

Re: Posthumous album

And as for the video version of “Happens To The Heart”, my reservations are even stronger. In principle there is no problem when video artists find inspiration in a certain LC song and create their own images, but we must not be given the impression that this is an “official” release, because LC ha...

Re: The dedication of Cohen's "Isaiah"

Thank you so much for the suggestion! As you say, she's not someone I'd associate with this particular poem, although her importance to those two you mention (and a few others as well) is certainly clear. I'll have to think more about it and see if there are any other dots I can (or can't) connect. ...

The dedication of Cohen's "Isaiah"

In The Spice-Box of Earth, Cohen dedicated the poem "Isaiah" to "G.C.S." Does anyone know the identity of the dedicatee?

Re: Listen to the 2nd KCRW interview

Thanks so much! I did find that other interview, and you're right about it being interesting!

If anyone has a recording of the audio from the one with Anjani, or is aware of a transcript that's available somewhere, please let me know.

Best,

Louis

Re: Listen to the 2nd KCRW interview

Hi all: I'm reviving this thread in hopes that someone can help me hear the original KCRW interview. The link in the first post of the thread works just fine--and I can get to the KCRW page other ways as well--but for some reason I can't get the interview itself to play (i've tried both Safari and C...

Re: Leonard and e e cummings

Yes. That's exactly what makes the image so interesting--and unconventional. As far as what the "you" in the song wants, I think maybe it's better to say that the "you" (whether that's a version of Cohen himself as he was then or not) thinks at first that they know what they want, and what they can ...

The image is available, just use the clock icon in the upper right-hand corner to jump back in time to March 2015!
Thank you! There's something very consoling about that.
