'Zero' - Rare Buddhist journal co-edited by Leonard
I have four out of the five editions of Zero: Contemporary Buddhist Life and Thought for sale. The quarterly journal was co-edited by Leonard and other members of Sasaki Roshi's community. It features some of Leonard's poetry as well as poems and articles from the likes of Paul Bowles, Frijthof Capr...

Re: A new song 'about' Cohen
Thanks Japhy, listening to your song just now, bringing a smile to my face. As for a back story, hard to say exactly as the recording and writing took place over a few years. I had one verse at the beginning which I thought might relate to Cohen but I really didn't want to make it very obvious or to...

A new song 'about' Cohen
The first song on my new album is based on various scenes from Leonard's life. It's called The Monk From the Mountain of Sorrow. It's not his style of music but is very definitely inspired by Leonard.

Re: The song of Leonard Cohen (Harry Rasky)
I have a VHS videocassette called The Song of Leonard Cohen 1979 and rarities. It seems to be a documentary of the 1979 tour plus 1988 interviews from German TV and a BBC documentary by Alexander Trocchi from 1996 called A Life in Pieces. So I don't know if it's the same thing being discussed here. ...

Re: Yet another biography - but which is best?
I read 'Prophet of the Heart' when it came out and, although I can't remember much about it now, two impressions were left with me. One that it had lots of detail and seemed to be full of interesting factual information but also adulation and hero-worship of the type normally found only on the extre...

Re: Songs From the Road - new live album - Sept 14, 2010
For my money, the performances here are stronger than those on the London DVD. Leonard, having stopped namechecking the performers after each solo, seems to inhabit each song more wholeheartedly and passionately. Maybe there was still some novelty in being onstage in the earlier one, where now there...

Edinburgh tribute night in October
There will be a Leonard Cohen evening in Edinburgh on Oct 30th. It's in the Captain's Bar, South College St (parallel to Chambers St). Covers of LC songs by local singer-songwriters including Calum Carlyle, Simon Kempston, Norman Lamont, James Igoe and Rosie Nimmo. The Captain's Bar is tiny so be su...
