Re: 'Soul Music – Hallelujah’ on BBC Radio 4 (April 14)

Pretty discrediting to Leonard's version. His version is the best, the definitive soulful version. I applied to go on this program and I can see why I did not fit into it because I was all about Cohen's version and my memories were for him.

Re: LEONARD COHEN NET WORTH

This puts Leonard into the top 1% wealthiest people in the USA - a group which itself has vast inequality within it; there are of course billionaires in there at the very top. Leonard Cohen is probably one of the few that has bettered the human condition for the a huge number of people. I still supp...

Re: Leonard 80 years: Fund Raising for our Hydra Bench

Sent my contribution this morning.

If we need to we can do a bit of PR to promote the cause, but we might well raise the money from people visiting the forum alone.

The stones have to be carried with mules at the place.

Re: How to celebrate Leonard's 80th birthday

The steps are already in place, the paving is already in place. This cost is largely for the bench alone. Stuff does cost this much if it is gonna be industrial-standard work. It ain't gonna be some park bench you have in your garden from a home improvement store. This needs to stand up to hundreds ...

Re: When,Where,And What Was The First LC Song You Heard?

1969 in my student days. One of my housemates had the first two albums, so it was probably Suzanne or Bird on a Wire. I never really followed LC after that until I saw Alexandra Burke (yes I know, sorry) win BGT with a cover of Hallelujah. That led me to discover some of the wonderful stuff I'd mis...

Re: Photo on Songs From a Room

There will be lots of people who can tell you about it. It's Marianne, from the song So Long, Marianne. It was taken in the home Leonard bought on Hydra in Greece. Marianne has been the subject of some intrigue and is the subject of a book here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1770411283 There is...

Re: Leonard Cohen 1985

At this stage he clutters his verses with a lot of extra words which are less elegant I think. He's still an utter legend.

Looks like he's scratched his face there too!

Re: How to celebrate Leonard's 80th birthday

Let the debaters analyze and argue to their hearts' content.... Aesthetically, I prefer "Came so far for beauty." Agreed, for the inscription "Came so far for beauty" is more suitable. There's no disrespect to the song at all. Without the "I" it has more gravitas and p...

Re: Live in London 3LP set?

I would definitely go for Field Commander Cohen on vinyl! I think it's one of the greatest albums and an essential because his live performances outdo the studio versions on Recent Songs. Will it be available from UK retailers?

Not that I know of.

You can stream it here:

I don't think it's terribly great. The protagonist has a suitable voice, but a little wooden. It's not shot as beautifully as it could have been.
