Re: CONCERT REPORT: Dublin, September 11th and 12th 2013

So many excellent reviews ....
I will not attempt to compete ... I just wish to say that
Wednesday night was outstanding and Thursday night was sublime
.... at least the equal of any other show that I attended.

Re: Upcoming Leonard Cohen Live DVD

I was also at the 'LIve in London' show and at a London concert by Stevie Wonder which was recorded. We were told that the Stevie Wonder gig was being recorded but you do not notice anything different. A friend of mine told me that the sound is taken from the sound desk so can be perfect (I don't kn...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: London, UK , September 15, 2013

I am winging this a bit as I drove straight from Dublin airport to work arriving one hour late but my collegue was good enough to fill in (some advantages of afternoon shifts I suppose). When this concert ended, I felt like someone who left the dinner table still feeling hungry. The abrupt ending to...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Leeds UK - Saturday 7 September 2013

The encores: (and this comment might annoy some people who think I'm being a mardy spoilsport) - it was really frustrating when those in the rows in front of us didn't sit back down again after the standing ovation. Having had a really good (the best?) view throughout, they then prevented people be...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Vienna, Austria - July 27, 2013

Full disclosure: I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and while I don't think Springsteen is in the same league as Leonard Cohen when it comes to lyrics, I'd argue that he is a way better songrwriter than he's usually given credit for and simply a stunning live performer. But this is not my point; my ...

Re: Does Leonard deserve a standing ovation for his UK dates

Leonard gets a standing ovation for just walking on stage and as he will be 79 in a month it is well deserved. The great Les Paul was playing on Monday nights in New York into his 90's and was asked in an interview at that time if there were any surprises on the night - his answer was 'the surprise ...

Re: Does Leonard deserve a standing ovation for his UK dates

Although Leonard's magnificent keyboard solo during " Tower of Song" always receives rapturous applause I have never Known him receive a standing ovation for it. It is not exactly Jerry Lee Lewis is it ??? Leonard 'sends himself up' at that time ... very tongue in cheek and played for hum...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

I have had as much to say about the re-scheduled gigs as anybody and I will admit that I did not foresee the turn of events from Leonard and his management. I was surprised to read about this on the forum and I also received an email about this. I never has a sense of entitlement and it was never my...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

Obviously if I had planned to fly to another country to see Leonard Cohen and he had cancelled or postponed the concert and I was not able to attend, I would be annoyed and very upset. However, travelling to the concert is my choice, my hotel booking and flights are not the fault or the responsibil...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

Am I missing something here, if he was ordained as a Rinzai Zen Buddist monk in 1996 would that not trump his Judism. I am just asking .... Is the change for Leonard or is he doing it out of respect for others who might attend ? Would a similar change be made if it fell on a Christian or other relig...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

I think that the whole purpose of a 'Forum' is that we have debate. This means that everyone has the right to their opinion even if it proves unpopluar with some and it seems that any perceived Leonard slight is jumped upon straight away. I count myself among the legions of fans (London is scheduled...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

I have just noticed that the date for Verona in 2012 was changed for the same reason ie it originally fell on Yom Kippur. This would seem to absolve Leonard himself of blame this time (not that I or anyone else I have read has blamed him despite any evidence as to who's fault this is) as Verona wou...

Re: URGENT: LONDON AND LEEDS RE-SCHEDULED

I can only echo the annoyance of other forum members over this fiasco. The only reason that I bought the London ticket in the first place was because the concert was on a Saturday night. I can cancel my hotel without penalty but my flights are booked (about Euro 160.-) and are non refundable. If I g...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: LONDON, JUNE 21, 02 ARENA

A Concert Report thread is for those who were at that particular concert to report. That is my simple approach. I would happily read a report thread for any concert from Kurdistan to Katmando but I would not contribute to it unless I had been there. ( There are lots of other threads for the rest of...
