Re: Before You're Sixty-Four.
I have thought about this thread, long and hard. I asked before of any sin was in the mind of the writer or the reader. I realise my judgement was clouded by giving up smoking. My judgement was a little off and I apologise for any offence caused by the immorality of the writing

Re: Before You're Sixty-Four.
Dear Geoffrey, I am not "Uffda1959", honest! But it's good to correspond again in cyberspace, even though you're going over the same old ground. Geoffrey, you are stuck in a moral rant against a piece of poetry, mine to be exact. If any sin was committed, was it in the head of the writer.....

I don't know about that.
But Jack Kerouac is a writer to be read in the 21st century.
And anyone reading this post can take it for read.

Re: Leonard, smoking..and me
I'm not sure how to reply to a head exploding experience. What I can say is that I wanted a cigarette today, at half -past-one post meridiem. ( 1330 GMT). I didn't have it. Yes, after all the "good work" I've done, it still draws me back, and always will. "If it be my will, I'll smoke...

Re: Leonard, smoking..and me
Dear all, Thankyou for the replies, especially those who engaged in the heart and lungs of the matter. I'm still clean :D , and hope to remain so for the rest of my life 8) . Getting back to Leonard, if he can do it, why can't Keith Richards, or Kate Moss (on the cat-walk yesterday), or Nick Clegg? ...

Re: Leonard, smoking..and me
The best movies, the ones that moulded my life, all involved cigarettes..full strength...maximum hit...get it in there now, or sooner.next time I miss smoking: so much of my daily routine revolved around cigarettes: thinking about when's the next/ best time to have one, enough left for tonight, tomo...

Re: Leonard, smoking..and me
To those who have replied, your posts have been a source of strength, yet there's something left, something to be said, and it's this: the supreme cigarette moments are associated with: writing, alcohol, sex, music, and not necessarily in that order. There are many more. Please post your own best cig...

Leonard, smoking..and me
I'm told Leonard stopped smoking cigarettes when he was 69. Well, I have stopped smoking cigarettes for 69 days. Honest. For those who know me, this will come as a shock, surprise to their view of normality. I share their disbelief. I want to know/ share the details of what it's like. For me, the ac...

Re: Two Outstanding Tributes Paid to JARKKO ARJATSALO
I've never met Jarkko, though we have corresponded on this forum. Yet I know we share something special: when Leonard thanked his audiencie(s) for "keeping my music alive after all these years", he was speaking of me, and especially you. Jarkko, you have been the mainstay in this forum: ho...

Dear Leonard, Yes, I read your reply before the message I'm posting, belatedly, now. Happy 76th birthday to you. Please understand this greeting is not only from me, but from the whole McGeever family, recently swollen by the arrival of my first grandchild, Arlo. Leonard, you are loved by so many pe...

Re: My Point of View
There are several replies to be made: I'll attempt them in one post. Firstly, to Mat James: "and even a time for grand-parental sentimentality" (sic). Mat, I was overwhelmed by your post. Those lines from the Book of Ecclesiastes are some of my favourite passages from The Bible. ( thinks b...
